I foresee problems with that system. Are you expecting one button from each tier to be pressed at the same time? Just see how hard it is to press Q, Z and T at the same time. Unless your are planning for more than one person at the keyboard, where pressing all those buttons may look like a nerdy game of Twister.
I think it's standard with all PC keyboards: three or four is the maximum, some combos may allow more though.
We really need a DirectInput extension though, MMF relies on window messages which suck for these kinds of reasons. With DirectInput keyboard presses/mouse clicks etc. would never "lag" at low FPS rates, and it'd probably support more than 3-4 keys pressed at a time.
Q and T couldnt be pressed at the same time. One moves the character and one performs a special move. IE They cant be used together. (not with my code anyway)
You mean like Q,G,Z? I didnt think of that...
I think probably the most players i expect in this game is 2. Unless i make a minigame or something.
This game will have 3v3 matches and stuff. And since each 'tier' of keys works a character, it could be pretty difficult.
It differs from keyboard to keyboard, but some keys are special. Like, my old keyboard could only do three no matter what, but my laptop can manage three plus one arrow key, and my wireless keyboard that I use sometimes can do three plus multiple arrow keys.

My old computer could stand 4 presses and Linux ignores the number of presses
I found this out when playing toejam and earl on my megadrive emulator. Me and my sister both used the keyboard and only one of us could walk diagonally at any one time.
Strange. I used to play with my brother AND sister at the SAME time with the same keyboard. Some stupid 3-player platform shooter. But I think it involved a lot of button mashing and combo moves. Definitely no trouble with >= 6 buttons at the same time... (until someone ends up pressing alt and enter at the same time)
