I believe the locking of this topic is offensive to both racists and people who live in multicultural societies (who can, in fact, laugh at everyone's differences and stereotypes without kicking up a fuss). I demand an explanation as to why the administration has chosen to discriminate against these groups, and I propose a ban on all jokes so as not to cause offence by subsequent topic locking and thus refusal of right to reply in context.

I still find it hard to believe that peole think I'm racist. There is a difference between telling jokes and actually being racist. I have really good friends in every ethnicity, including my best friend, who is black. Like JP, we joke around about our race all the time. It's funny how this is the only place I've talked about it where people actually had a problem. I also find it real funny how fire yelled at me and kirby, but not JP.

look, we as the admins respect the fact that MOST racist jokes are used to ridicule prejudice and aren't in fact racist at all, but the fact remains that SOME are. rather than attempt to draw a line anywhere, it's much easier from our point of view to blanket ban any posts that could incite racist attitudes. it's clearly stated in the rules and if you don't like it, well, tough. we just want to remove the risk of any racially motivated prejudice on DC, and this is how we do it.
btw, i'd be careful saying, "i'm not racist, my best friend is black!" to avoid the risk of cliché www.blackpeopleloveus.com
Some people make racist jokes BECAUSE they're racist. Some people make racist jokes for a laugh between their friends. Others may not distinguish between racism and racist jokes. I would agree not to tolerate any racism at all.
Who cares if people actually are racist? What are they gonna do, commit a hate crime via email? I think that would matter if it were face to face with someone, but we aren't face to face with anyways. If they are racist that's their own fault. They get to miss out on tacos.
I have nothing against good-mannered "racist" jokes, because they are just jokes (and they're especially good when members of the target race can laugh too), but racism through spite is something I look down on. It probably was a good idea to lock that thread, although there were some nice ones on there.
We had some real awesome racist joke fun on another forum. For about a day everyone was changing their sigs to KKK or nazi stuff and making nigger jokes. It was brilliant. The only people getting offender were twenty-something white guys.
As long as you're careful to insult all groups equally, then you end up not really insulting anyone. Those who can't take a joke just need to loosen up. I know I made sure to poke fun at blacks, mexicans, asians, irish, iraqis, peurto ricans, and jews, (maybe more). Taken in the context of there being different groups being slammed above and below whatever joke may offend your particular group should be enough to demonstrate that I don't truly hate you for your nationality, but just enjoy a good laugh. On the other hand tho I see where the admins are coming from for the reasons they presented.
