Ok, I'm gonna be honest and admit my drawing skills aren't that great (particularly in comparison to stuff like that Chaos Gate Preview (Ben, you have too much free time, don't you?)), and I'm stooping to the level of submission What tips do you have for someone learning to draw? I'll post up something I've been working on lately so you can see me and Con-con's stuff, but it'll probably be a while before its up. Also, while I'm asking stuff, could someone explain what all this extension stuff is about? I know that's gotta be a newbie question, but I won't learn until i ask...

DO
+ look at pixel tutorials/existing work and see how they are done (outlines, shading etc)
+ draw/shade basic shapes
+ move onto more complex shapes (basic outlining + shading)
+ shading on more complex shapes
+ find your own style.
DON'T
- rip srites
- give up. Keep on trying. Eventually, you should come up with a shape/picture you are happy with
About those extensions, do you mean stuff that help create particle effects?
Er, not sure... nm, ill save it for another topic unless it'd help me with graphic stuff. Would changing the resolution help to provide a bit more detail by any chance, or would it make everything weird?

Wow, you guessed correctly! Alright, makes sense. I've actually never used black lines, but it'd probably look better. Thx for the tip!

With higher resolutions you can often draw more 'loose-handed', which means you don't have to start pixel-by-pixel.
First, start out with a raw picture of what you want and give it a color. Then add a very light shading, like this:
- Select a bit darker color and color it in at a very small point of the left/right/shadow side.
Select a lighter color and put it in the opposite side of the object.
If you download my scrolling system tutorial, look at the mountains and you'll know what I mean.
