One of the execs at sony told a japanese newpaper that the system would sell for less than 50,000 yen, that's almost $475 by todays conversion rates, now, I'm assuming this wasn't a joke on sony's part.
no joke. some people dont even believe them thats how low it will be. i think the nasty people over at G4 thought it could possilby be around $600. but they're crazy. CRAZY!

We'll see won't we. I can't imagine them being too overpriced. After all, they always make a loss on console sales, so why not just keep the price down so more people will buy them, then garner more royalties from games?
I won't be buying one for more than £150. I could buy some nice PC upgrades for that price.
Well, you know people will buy them whatever they cost, they'll be a cool thing to have. Look at iPods and mobile phones, people still buy them even though they cost about 800% more than they're actually worth.
I'll believe it when I see it. There were similar rumors surrounding almost every previous hardware launch. I might believe $399 at most, but anything more would result in a huge drop in sales. No matter how high tech the machine is, parents aren't about to spend $400 or more on a "toy."
"Parents"?!. what kind of horrible person would ask a parent for a console. a portable maybe. but buy your own stuff. or take out a loan from them and pay em back. be responsible. :]
Well obviously I'd buy it for myself. I could buy a brand new console per paycheck if I wanted to, but a good part of the gaming market is still made up of kids -- who probably don't have $400 lying around and would have to ask for the console as a Christmas preasent or something. The casual gamer also wouldn't just drop over $400 on a whim, and to the dismay of the hardcore gamer, they account for the majority of market.
I'm just gonna wait forever until I can buy all these new consoles at a flea market for $20.
Seriously though, I'd probably not pay more than $300. I'm gonna wait for the price to go down since I've still got a bunch of PS2 games I have still yet to beat.
