I sent a game to a friend using Install Creator - they have a Mac computer - it didn't work and he's going on about can I send it in DMG format - I know zero about Macs - can anyone help me help him??
to start press any key ...... where's the ANY KEY??
Calm down, calm down Phizzy! You promised not to let your anger out. It is bad for you.
Now, think about cucumbers and shovels. Yees, that's a good boy.
unless he has virtual PC installed then he cant play the game.
a DMG is like a virtual drive, similar to a Zip file but more fun. the system recognizes it as it would an extra hard drive or CD/DVD. which makes for easy piracy i tell ya! but you didn't get that from me
i dont think there is any way of making a DMG in windows. but theres a happy medium- ISO. but thats pointless for just a game. just zip it! strange as it may seem (because we all know Macs haven't improved since the 1920's) OSX can easily recognize any of the major compression types.
like i said though. virtual PC will run any .exe perfectly. it cannot emulate DirectX of course so new 3D games are out the window. but my 1.5ghz G4 performs the same as my 3ghz P4 with apps like MMF and Rollercoaster Tycoon 1. its a bloomin fantastic emulator.
Your friend wont be able to play your game normally on his mac because The games factory and multimedia fusion (assuming thats what you used) is a pc only application. Making it a zip file wont solve a thing.
what you want to do is tell him to get a pc emulator for his mac, THEN he can play your game.
not really, you could say the same thing about Windows and Linux lacking Xcode (an excellent free app and game maker bundled with OS X that runs much better than MMF but with a similar WYSIWYG approach).
you could also say it blows that Windows NEEDS 3rd party security apps just to stay normal. no OS has everything. im running linux (Mandrake), OSX and Windows and i think i can safely say that.
what is good though is that Virtual PC emulates Windows very well so you dont loose out on the 2D. there are other free ones but im unsure about them, he might want to pay a visit to google.
also... from what I hear. MMF2 is all about different platforms. I emailed Jeff a while back and he said an OSX exporter isn't impossible, same for the GP32 thing from a while ago. maybe even an OSX version of MMF2 - though he also said a mac coder would cost more than its worth.
i like to keep my ear to the ground
