I guess this would include and system before the 32/64bit generation. Unless you want to argue that 32 bit is retro enough.
I'm a big fan of retro gaming a the moment, it's nice to hear othe peoples stories about playing a classic for the first time, or receiving their first computer when they were a young'un.
SNES all the way. I got one in 1996 when all other kids got playstations, saturns and nsixtyfours, I got many consoles after that but none of them was as much fun as the SNES (PSX comes second). I actually played some games on it today.
Also I want to insult HBK HARD for babbling about his stupid topics once again, but he will say "elf" because he thinks it's an insult. So I won't.
My first console was a SNES too... and by far the most fun thinking back to when i used to play it. I think i got it when Super Mario World came out, because i got that with it. I was only a little kid (6 maybe? not sure) and i remember being well upset when my dad killed Bowser when i was in bed . Oh well.
Favourite SNES games would have to be:
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kard
Secret of Mana
Donkey Kong Country (and 2 & 3)
Super Metroid
...I'm having trouble remembering others.
I recently played Flashback again (it was far too hard when i was little) and completed it. Did anyone else ever play that?
Collecting SNES games is good fun, I am hunting for Mario RPG and Kirby's dreamland 3 atm. I got FF3/6 from a friend awhile ago, playing it on the actual console blew my mind.
I need to get hold of FF3/6 and Mario RPG... never had a chance to play them on the actual console. My mate bought a SNES in very good condition recently, so we're gonna go through all the classics (we're sharing a house at uni at the end of this year).
I would say SNES but I played more megadrive and master system, because my uncle had them. He may have had a genisis... oh and for 32 bit, Saturn had Nights into Dreams, one of the best games ever made.

NES was my first console, but I'd perfer Genesis, only because it had Ristar and Sonic, both of which I loved. (Still play, thanks to Sonic Collections for GameCube.)
First console I remember seeing in my house was the gamegear, we didnt have them before that. We had scaletrix and lego! We have a gameboy now though and thats fun
Jazz Jack rabbit
Duke Nukem
Commander keen
Lost vikings
Save my pizza
Zool...although Ive only ever played the sweet level...
Lemmings (Which crashed my PC when I banged the keyboard from temper )
Wolfenstein
i just found an old Mario RPG cart in a dusty old box in my Dads basement! Ahhh Yeeeah! Hey wait, where the hell is my snes?! It's gotta be in one of these boxes.... Oh heres some more games!! Mario All Stars, Killer Instict, and Mortal Kombat 2. NOW WHERES MY DAMN SNES!!!
funny, none of my cart games have ever broken. if they stopped working, i would usually clean the connectors with a cotton bud, and hey presto!
but sometimes a game ive bought from ebay wouldn't work until i cleaned the connectors. I dreaded them being broken as you never know. However they were always just dirty.
And two recent cassette based games i bought worked perfectly!
Thinking i'm getting a topic about old consoles, i just see lots of crap after 1 page. Wasted a nice 10 min to get this topic back to normal. Please stay on topic folks!

Yea I hear ya AndyUK... But it seems (I could be wrong since I'm from Brasil, and haven't been here in the US for that long) that the Megadrive/Genesis just wasn't as popular here as it seemed to be in other regions of the world. In Brasil, Sega always did very well, and there the ratio was 8 out of 10 would have a Megadrive instead of a snes. Games like Sonic there did well to put Sega's console #1. Even Sega Master System was very popular there. That was my first console I ever owned. Several Sega Master System games were made there due to it's popularity. Here in the US most will ask, what's a Master System? They here know more of Gamegear which is the portable version of SMS.
I could never really get into the MD/Genesis somehow. I did notice a lot of games had more creative programming and use of the pallette than the SNES games, but I can't think of one MD game that really entertained me.
I never got into the Megadrive either... everyone always seems to love Sonic games but to me they're just "another platformer"... I'm for Mario... Mario games always seem to have so much more character.
I was thouroughly entertained by many Megadrive games, most games were more fun with 2 player though.
Sonic 1 2 3 & knuckles (sonic 2's 2 player is the best thing ever)
Ristar
Dynamite headdy
gunstar heroes
Super hydlide
Soliel
Buck rogers - countdown to doomsday
kings bounty
fifa 97
theme park
james pond 2 and 3
micro machines - all (in 96 you can make your own tracks!!!)
light crusader
fantastic dizzy
toejam and earl (2 player must)
sparkster
ok i'll stop there.
on the Snes however ive only really enjoyed a few games
Final fantasy 6
Chrono trigger
Kirby 3
yoshi's island (on gba version)
but it's an unfair comparison since i don't own a Snes.
SNES ftw. I loved Street Fighter II, Paper Boy, Mario RPG, and A Link to the Past. Unfortunately we gave it away when we got a Play Station. I wish I could get it back.
You shouldn't go here, there are crazy swedes who mumble about cucumbers:

Oh, the memories... Anyone here have played Streets of Rage? It's like Final Fight, but a zillion times better. Someone should make a SoR fan game... Wait, there already is one. Beats of Rage ^^

Mario RPG and Kirby 3 are coming my way..now I need to think of more SNES classics I don't own. Or I should get a megadrive and try to change my mind about it.
fine. I just said that because i don't want people to argue over what is 'retro'
The sega saturn is just about the only popular console ive never played. I didn't even know anyone that owned one!
Although PS1 and Saturn is about the same age, the PS1's lifespan was about twice as long as the Saturn's, and thus I'd consider Saturn retro, but not the PS1.
To be honest, I've never played any Saturn games
