I thought the same thing. I voted for Terragon, but that was last week when it was leading the pack with 4 votes. I'm sure the admins can look up how many new members joined up here within the last day or so and go from there, right?

Actually no I don't have 100% proof - I'm not entirely convinced that the creator of the game actually had anything to do with the votes, but we can find out. Anyway, there is definate cheating going on by someone. Resetting the vote is harsh yes, but I'm in a foul mood at the moment.
Well its not really uncalled for, me being grouchy. I mean, its not as if of the other admins bother to help out and take initiative with GOTW. Even though I asked them over a week ago... they only do it when it HAS to be done, ie, when I'm away on holiday. Only myself, Rikus and Wong are the active admins these days, and I'm a bit sick of the way people presume I'll be doing GOTW every Saturday. Plus personal issues at home and work sometimes cloud my judgement and make me... angry.
Part of me really can't be bothered to care anymore.

I understand it gets boring doing GOTW every single week over and over again.
To me, it sounds like you guys needs some new admins.
erm ... circy, why not just ask and see if a few people would like to help with gotw, then allow them to post news about gotw.
this will probably require culbsoft to code it wouldn't it? well if that's the case then you cuold always appoint a some trust worthy members to a moderator position to help out ... just my two cents
Well I certainly didn't cheat and make multiple accounts, although I'd admit I put a notice on www.fendez.com when Terragon had been overtaken, saying "show your support for Terragon by voting for it at TDC" or something to that effect. Is that wrong?
That's not to say that no-one else could have made mulitple accounts though :S
But I guess the GoTW award is a TDC award, which should be decided by the long-term members of TDC - not by Fendez fans who haven't really much to do with TDC. This can be seen by the way MFS has a much better Thumbs Up/Down record than Terragon.
Plus, that would inspire more people to even vote thumbs up / down as not all games receive any.
My stance on GOTW voting is if I didn't play all the games, or can't decide on a clear winner, I just don't vote at all. I think that's pretty fair.

i like both the ideas of having GOTW moderators and the thumbs up idea!
The thumbs up, to an extent will involve more interaction with the public, and its not like the thumbs up or down system has a major effect on people downloading the stuff. Furthermore, with this new system, you should also be able to show like a symbol saying GOTW or something just to show people that this game has some status....if you get me!
Other then that, i still think its harsh about the votes being reset, but hey thats only my say!
I'm glad someone made this topic cuz I think THIS GOTW is strange.
A game rated at 40 % is the first, the second is a (awful) clone of another game and has 50 %.
The last one has 89 %.
I think we really should start making a GOTM instead.
By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,

On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule
From a wild clime that lieth, sublime,
Out of space
Out of time.
GOTM is a good idea, as it will highlight the absolute best game released that month. The only thing I can think of is that a lot of very good games might get the shaft a bit. Imagine 20 awesome games vs 1 Eternal Daughter or Spirit Engine, for example. Not like this can't happen in the normal GOTW format, but it'd be amplified a lot if you could only showcase a single game that month. I suppose from the outside looking in, the quality of the list would be much higher. But as an insider, none of my games would win, lol! Oh well, the month's pick is probably still the best idea, overall.

How about a GOTW-system with thumbs up, and at the end of each month, all games with good thumbs up/down-ratio can compete in GOTM?
I understand what you mean when you say that good games will outcompete each other. But now it's trading quality for safety or something. If people are so afraid to release their games the "wrong" month, perhaps you could make it so that three games get mentioned? A GOTM-picture for #1 and a notice for #2 and #3. Not that I think we should put any more workload onto the admins.
I think though, with GOTM, you get something people will actually fight for! Today, with some luck, any crap game can become GOTW. So what's the honor in earning that title if anyone can get it?
Thumbs won't work because people will just create fake identities to inflate their thumbs up.
GOTM won't change anything because there will simply be more games, and less people will have informed opinions because fewer people will take the time to play all the additional games in the running, although the winners would be of a more consistent quality.
I don't really like the idea of the Editor's Choice, as it gives a few people all the say and most of the people none of the say in what gets featured, but it's probably the best way to feature quality games, unless you want to limit voting to people who have been around a certain amount of time, or have a certain amount of forum posts or DC points, but that would probably require too much work on the part of Clubsoft, or whoever is pulling the levers behind the scenes of this monkey parade.
Personally, I think there should be a Game of the Day, and everyone should win no matter how terrible their game is. Then everyone can be a winner and we can all be friends and have rainbows. But, I have $40 in my ass, so my opinion's probably not important.

"Thumbs won't work because people will just create fake identities to inflate their thumbs up."
I was explaining why that wouldn't be an improvement over what we already have. Since people would continue to cheat in a similar way, it wouldn't solve the problem.

One way to solve it would be to have a jury of some kind. Maybe the admins, or just like 10-15 suitable TDC members, that voted each week on their favourite, and then the winner was selected for GOTW? Wouldnt that be worth a try?
I think because of the lack of entries, we should have a GOTETW: Game of the Every Two Weeks. *nudges admins* eh?
"Actually sir, we found a tiny unicorn in your exhaust. It was jumping around poking holes in your gas tank." "Oh thank you I did not know that. A tiny unicorn? Wow."
I bug them about making a GOTM every time Circ makes a post about someone else doing a GOTW . Hey, GOTM solves ONE problem - the fact that GOT* would only have to be updated once a month. That, and it balances out the games a lot better. I've lost almost all respect for GOTW as on some weeks a really crappy game would win, while the week before, there'd be 2 superb games, one forgotten to time. Eg. Snowbattle vs Darren Baker's One Step From Reality.
Editor's choice would mean nothing as the admins choice always make it into the news (archive) and GOTW nominees. Only difference would be that the editors in charge of choosing the choices would get hate mail from noobs who didn't make it in.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.

So tough shit. That probably happens anyway.
Perhaps have an option of suggesting a game to be GOTM. Then have a group of slected members who play, say the top 10 ten suggested games and then they vote which game should be awarded GOTM.
