The game i am making at the moment runs in 640x480, and uses a couple of active objects that are 640x480 with semi-transparancy over the screen to fade it throughout the game. Does anyone know if this will slow down older PCs (it's made in MMF2). I also intend to include various transparant explosion effects.

Also, when it rains in my game, about 200 more small active objects are created, as well as a few semi-transparent clouds. Does anyone know if this would cause issues?

I'm just wondering whether i should include a "turn off weather and night-time" option.

On my computer it runs at a constant 50 frames a second, with both the transparent overlays and rain it drops to about 45 sometimes. My computer has 1gb ram and a 3.2ghz processor.

Any feedback from people who have experienced slowdown with mmf2 would be greatly appreciated.

I don't intend to upload an example of the game, as i'm keeping it secret-ish, even though some of you have played the demo.

I've had a weather set up made in MMF2 that generates around 100-300 rain particles on the screen at once, all using alpha channeling (harder then semi-transpancy to run) and I got a solid 60fps, which is fine seeing as the frame cap was 60fps.

I don't think it'll be a huge issue - I'm not sure of the average computer setup everyone has here, but accommodating people with lower end PCs is always nice. Add an option if you've got it all in a group that's easy to turn off.

Thats why people do Betas and Alphas in order to test there software on average computers.

The more options you have in the game, the higher chance of reaching a larger audience, because more people with lower specs will be able to 'tweak' the game down to a performance level that works best for them, while people with a stronger system, can crank the settings up to max and enjoy the game at it's best looking quality.

I tried it on various computers in my house, but couldn't relate the results to the computer specs. If it slowed down at all, it seemed fairly random, ill put some options in to turn stuff down though, just in case.
