For those who live in the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Poland, on Thursday/Friday a huge storm swept through Northern Europe and killed lots of people.
Out of curiosity, what were your experiences of it? My worst feeling of unease was when I was on my way to a recreation centre to play badminton with some friends, only to encounter a roof that had been blown off the building - it ended up in the middle of the road. While I was playing badminton, the roof of the rec centre looked like it was lifting up and down a bit... and I was kinda nervous. At home I also lost four garden fence panels, while my girlfriends wheelie bin ended up nearly thirty houses down the road in someones garden.
A tree hit the bus I was on when I was going to college, but it didnt do any damage. Although a branch flew into the window I was sitting next to and put a crack in it, which scared the crap out of me.
Oh, and on the way back, I saw several uprooted trees, one of which had fallen accross a road.
A few months ago there was a huge flood near from where I live. I was in my way home, in a car with my father, and it was raining badly. A few minutes after the rain actually started, the water level was above the wheels. The car could barely keep going, and the engine could stop working at any moment, just like others we saw.
Pfft, you guys are getting off light over there. The USA is getting absolutely nailed this year. Hell, it was snowing sideways this morning (as I rode my bike to work no less). Less than 2 weeks after 2 major blizzards came through and f*cked with everything over here (Not to mention the arctic temperatures over here). The Mississippi River valley is getting nailed with snow as well, threatening to flood the river even more than it has been (In Ohio mostly).
But yeah, strange strange weather all over the place this winter.
OMG. The wind sent a collared dove through my bedroom window and I had a panic attack.
It was 3pm ish and I had just woken, and I sat at my comp. Hayo was talking to me on msn and I was eating cold pasta salad that I didnt feel like. Then there was a really loud bang, I shat myself and glass went all over. At first I thought I was under attack, then I saw a bird flying around behind the curtain it was fine. It sent glass across my room thats like 20 feet across. It also went in my pasta salad
The next dad a man came and fixed it, and I watched nervously as collared doves attempted to fly over my house.
Also the wind has been scaring me, we have alot of big trees in my garden, alot near my bedroom and im scared they will come through the wall
The weather has been odd all over the world though at the moment.
EDIT: Shab it's not light, It was the first time in 20 years Ive not felt safe from wind -_-
Half of the garage door fell off in the winds. God knows how, the wind was coming in from the side and missed the doors completely. Anyways, it flung open. Me and my dad (just had an operation on his knee too) managed to nail the broken panels back together and got it locked again.
Part of the driveway fence flew off, smashed into a lamp post and threw shards of wood all over the show. Nothing much else though. Winter Hill got 90mph winds we had 60, 70mph I think.
lol I just found this, apparently UK has the most Tornado's but they're small and away from populated areas. Cute n_n mini tornados playing in a field together.
Yup. We get more tornados per inch or something like that. I've been up on the moors loads and they're full of them. I was on the phone once and one popped up a mile or so away from me heading my direction. only a tiny thing but scary as hell
I remember my brothers got onto American News when we were in North Carolina and a Hurricane was coming, our friends in Virginia rang us and they were excited to see them But thats America not Europe so back onto Europe->
Yes, Moors are freaky places, cool but always have:
Sheep
Adders
Motorbike people
Rocks with peoples carvings on them
Sheep
Random pubs in the middle of nowhere packed with people and its like wtf where did you all come from?
Sheep
Random streams
Sheeps poo.
10% trees perhaps less.
Omg we used to have a sheeps skull in our art classroom, Its teeth reaallly used to freak me out. They wobbled around and it looked so painful, I used to hold my own teeth and be grateful I wasnt a skeleton yet
