I was thinking about this the other day, the fact of the matter is that Vertical Shootemups are actually 1D Shootemups (as in u only effect your horizontal course)
Horizontal Shootemups are actually 2d Shootemups (as in u effect your horizontal course and your altitude).
Vertical Shootemups seem to be much more arcadish and probably faster pace
Horizontal Shootemups add more strategy into the game, and maybe slower pace.
Since I perfer strategy over button mashing Im going to say Horizontal.
Its not enough,I need more
Not enough to satisify
I said I dont want it, I just need it.
To believe, to feel, to know I'm alive.
Knuckle deep beneath the borderlines.
This may hurt a little but its something you'll get used to.
Relax. Slip Away...
ehm, 2D is 2D no matter what...vertical shooters are in 2D as well....1D means you can only move left/right or up/down...

They're both pretty cool, but I think I like horizontal ones better aswell. Vertical ones normally are all about dodging bullets more than anything. Horizontal shooters often show less of the 'screen' \ have bigger sprites so you can't fit as much on. Which is kind of a good thing normally. But yeah, that's all I have to say really.

Hm, Hishnak, why would you refuse to play mouse-controlled shmups? As long as you can control them with both the mouse and keyboard, and as long as they have good inertia, I'd say it's only for the better. Just look at how much better Tyrian becomes because of it!
