Hmm... I'm starting to question a lot of the charity movements out there. Seems that a lot of people are willing to give to any charity, yet the bulk of the charity work seems to go towards AIDS awareness, cancer awareness, or 'curing poverty/starvation'.
And unfortunately, that's it. With the charity money, all they do for awareness is put around posters and billboards saying "wear condoms" or "get checked for cancer" or "don't smoke". Then some 3rd world country schoolkid goes up and graffitis the 'government propoganda'. Of course, nobody really listens to the charity workers, most people I see just pretend they don't exist.
Curing starvation is one of the best ways to waste money that I've ever seen. Most charity workers just give a large check to the government/king, telling them to buy food for the poor. Then the poor people get a short 1 day feast, maybe 1 month if they're lucky. It's sad really, all that hard work gone to waste. If people just spent that money to build farms, irrigation, fertilizers, hydroponics, we wouldn't need so many charities.

Once I saw a documentary in which african kids were desperately looking for food in the dust, and at some point a soldier aproached one of them, took his toy and kicked him in the chest for no reason. He started crying and my heart broke in pieces.
There was this good organization that gave cows and other animals to poor third world country families and teach them how to raise them on what they have, and it actually works.
I can't remember this one organization. They actually had a little chart that showed exactly what percentages of what you give actually go to the people.
Yeah, the hunger site was a good idea. Used to put a link on it on my site and click there every day when I had daily internet access.
Well, apparently, since there are so many starving people, there are not many farms. Most of the charities just buy a whole stock of food and gave them in a packet to poor people. They did in Afghanistan and called it charity. Ironically, they also dropped cluster bombs near the same areas in Afghanistan, so a lot of the villagers were scared to pick up the food packets anyway. I know it's true coz I read it in the newspapers .
And most 'awareness' charites spend all their money on ads, sponsoring things so they can put ads, and pamphlets. Which is why I don't give to those. They go all "a million kids are orphaned from aids each day, let's give them a home". What happens to the non-infected orphans? Do they get homeless?
What really annoys me is that people are giving millions to the loud, pointless charities and ignoring the people who sincerely help others. The famous 'philantropist' George Soros actually wiped out entire economies. He made poor people bankrupt, got millions fired, forced a lot of businessmen to eat restaurant leftovers. And yet, he's recognized by many as a saint.
Money should be put into education or at least a loan fund to give poor people a chance to break out of poverty. The charities that give everyone a dollar to get rid of poverty are only increasing inflation. Still, I salute the true charities for their hard work.
