I've been trying a couple of MMF games that use MIDIs and they won't play. I can get MIDI to work everywhere else. I had some complication getting MIDI to work on my PC, I had TinyXP installed which was missing the GM.DLS as well as some DX files.
Is there some kind of alternative MIDI system(a bit like the KxAudio system which I also might try), or a way to push programs into choosing a certain device?

The short answer is no, unfortunately. MIDI control in MMF is literally Play/Stop. You'll probably have more success by buying a cheap Soundblaster card for £10, if fixing the problem is even worth that much to you.
Have you tried reinstalling MMF? Failing that, the only thing I can suggest is to make sure that you have an up-to-date (or not corrupt, even) version of cncs232.dll in your Windows/System/ folder. It's a very strange problem indeed.

Get GM.DLS from somewhere and install the MIDI software synth driver that uses it, and see if that makes any difference.
EDIT: this solution is unlikely, as MMF is supposed to take the MIDI driver currently in use, not take the sound font and use custom functions to play music with it.
