I'm making a game with a stickman going through levels to defeat the stickman slayer. if anyone is interested in helping contact me in tdc or in my email lagixklonoa@hotmail.com. if you added me please let me know by reposting here. thanx!
Gameplay has to make up for the graphical loss of using stick men. If you used stick men with a Mario type engine and that was all it was then the game would really suck. If it was original or was just absolutely engaging and addicting than that's when using stick figures as sprites will do fine. Otherwise DaVince is right.
Using stick people isn't necessarily a graphical loss. For one thing it's a damn side better to use a minimalist style you can handle than shit out some horrible mspaint graphics. For another, "stickman" doesn't tell us much about the graphical style at all; it could be littered with flashy particle effects or glorious prerendered 3D backdrops or impressive vector-style animation and levels.
And of course it's pretty tough to make a game with a 'stickman' gimmick without actually using stick figures, and if graphics isn't the guy's strong suit, it's better than no game at all.
My point is, let's not jump down the kid's throat over percieved game-breaking graphical flaws based on a one-sentence description.
as long as you don't do 1 pixel thick stickmen, it's fine. If the animation is good, I see no reason why drawing stickmen should be frowned upon.
You can add a whole new dimention to the gameplay by simply allowing manipulation of the limbs to form various poses, that could allow you to hide from enemies (this could be done in other games, but it would work best with a minimalistic graphical style IMO)

I'm not wrong. 2 and a bit lines is not convincing me to be interested. That was the point, I wrote nothing negative towards stickmen games.
See, ignorance. Someone with an ounce of imagination would tell you a stick man could be given character through the way in which he is animated, makes sounds etc. And after all, isn't it you coding folk that always insist it's the gameplay that matters?

It's the gameplay that matters, but using stickmen can make someone think "lazy" and "unoriginal". First impression is also something to keep in account, do you want a game to be popular.
I wouldn't dismiss opinion and impression as ignorance. You see what you see - and you might have had previous experiences with stickman games, which undoubtedly is a factor in your first impression.

I have an ancient pack of stickman ninjas I can give you to use if you want. I made it years ago... when I first started clickin'... back in the Klik and Play days. Those were the days, I tell yuh sonny. Ah yes, Destruction carnival had just been released as I recal. In those days we'd tie an onion to our belt... which was the style at the time. What..oh sorry... my old mind wonders these days. Somethin' about stickmen... ah yes. I have a pack I can give you. It has these guys in it --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTFlHPtnfIA . Now where did I put that File! Damn senility!

There you go. Wow. I haven't looked at these sprites in ages. They're pretty violent! I think I was listening to to much Metal back then . Anyway there you go if you want them.
