Yeah that's much better without the face - lots more professional. Maybe add something to the inner circle though... I'm not sure what though, unfortunately.
Maybe you could incorporate the black / blue circle as part of the font, so have a circle for the letter "O" at the beginning or something and have just the image as a secondary logo?
The gradients are fine, nothing wrong with gradients.
The blue on the small circle looks like it needs less green and more blue though. The Hue, as James said.
I Don't think it's getting better at all. The touch of blue was nice but otherwise they're all to similar to actually be better/worse.
I say you should simplify the look of the face but not shading it, just black and grey. That way it wont lose anything if you use a smaller version of it somewhere.
Yeah now that it's like that as part of the text, maybe swap the two colours on the circles too so the colours flow a little better? Then that's pretty much there!
Maybe go for something a bit abstract in the bigger circle? Like maybe a white half-moon shape 10% transparent, or two, with one inside the other... I'd show you what I mean but I'm a little too busy atm
I like the first one because it looks like it could be off one of those cheapie labels that punk bands in my town love to stick all over everything in sight.
