Sprite a famous game character in your own style. Here's my Samus. I switched her color scheme a bit because it just didn't look right with the "Classic" scheme.
I was drawing some Turrican 2 graphics and improving them from the 8 bit versions.
The character sprites you see there are
1 Commodore 64
2 Amstrad cpc
3 My edited c64 sprite
Both the Amstrad cpc and Commodore 64 sprites use double pixel width and so do the background graphics.
So i re coloured them then did a median filter on them, then added some manual dithering.
The 32x32 squares are all based on the C64 version
whereas the first two vines (32x16) are C64 then Amstrad cpc then the cpc median filtered then hand pixeled!
My avitar has a bunch of famous knock-off sprites I made including "Super Barry Bros.", "Nitro the Groundhog", "Mega Dude" and "Super Soldier" (a Contra knockoff). I enjoyed making these because they are not quite the famous heros everyone knows and loves, but they are still close enough so everyone can tell who they are trying to be. http://www.patentpretending.com/gamesgif.gif
