It's quite obvious why the pools so big - to accomodate really fat people. With regular 25-metre length swimming pools you can only get about four fat people in... maybe five if their skin is touching each other. But if you want actual SWIMMING space then that's where obese people need to go on holiday

So long as they don't all bomb in at the same time. Otherwise there will be considerably less water in there.
And the edges will become too high to get out again.

It's perhaps the true sign of human advancement. It's one thing to swim in the ocean, but it's so much cooler to swim in a huge pool built right next to the ocean!
