A nice little topic to discuss this latest compo. What are you creating or are you entering in the first place let us know!
Clickteam and Fusion2Developers is proud to announce "The Twenty Event", A Multimedia Fusion Programming Challenge contest... Entrants will battle it out to create the coolest game in MMF2/tgf 2 that uses no more then Twenty Events in any one frame, The Grand Prize winner will walk away with $250.00 Cash and MMF RESPECT
only 20 events I can understand, but to further complicated that with only 3 conditions per event seems to be splitting hairs to me. I'll likely give this a go.
Done thanks Steve. I am afraid i do agree with Adam. Also its a shame they did not involve the dc-admin team with this, we could have helped with some suggestions in the rules and how the compo is presented. I dont know about the others but i feel a little left out we were not let in on this. We could have really gone all out. Ohhhh well, we do fully support it since it is still a nice price award, and it is a good idea, if i had mmf2 i would enter, lol

What is meant by you agree with Adam, Rikus. That we are trying to get more people to sign up to Fusion2Developers, well of course thats why I agreed to run the contest for Jeff, Sorry If I have TDC six billzion Users Envy!
Lol no worries Kisguri at all! I think the contest is a great idea and i hope you will get lots of sign ups from it, hehehe, hopefully the front news bit should help get some more attention to it, i'm actually really interested to see what people can do with 20 events.
Will we be able to see the submissions before they are judged?

Err, that bonus points for level events number breaks your scoring a bit. If you submit a 4 frame app with one event in each frame, you'd get 76 bonus points, which is far over the normal points one can earn. It'd be quite easy to "pad" your scores in this manner.
We will be posting the submissions in the gallery as we receive them, so the minute we get one you should be able to view it, And to answer your question Fanotherpg,
1 - Contest begins on 04/02/2008
2 - Contest Submission Period ends on 06/02/2008 midnight (GMT)
3 - Contest results will be released on 07/02/2008 and prizes awarded
So yes you need to have you entry submitted by 06/02/2008 Midnight (GMT)
and a month later the winners will be announced....
The bonus rules regarding the event bonus points reads
"On the frame with the most event lines
Bonus points for under 20 event lines.
Example:
Frame 1 = 1 event = 19 possible bonus points
Frame 2 = 19 event = 1 possible bonus points
Frame 3 = 10 events = 10 possible bonus points
Frame 4 = 2 events = 18 possible bonus points
The game being scored would receive 1 bonus point."
So you only get the bonus points for the frame in your
app that has the most events, in the example frame 2
has the most events but is under the 20 mark by one, hence
one bonus point!
Aha, must have misread that. Thanks for clearing that up!
Already started working on an entry, trying to cram as much as possible into each event. Though I'm protyping in TGF (At work, TGF owns you!) so the order of events is messing with me. I'm assuming the way TGF handles it is that actions you place first happen before actions you place later, correct?
Originally Posted by Kisguri That is Correct, double clicking on a event will pull up another window showing you the order of events for that condition....!
not a big deal, like aI said, I'm just prototyping in TGF1 anyway, I can fix up the order of actions when I get home with MMF2.
Have another question though. I was planning on having external levels through INI; it says external sounds/graphics are prohibited and also says to just send the MFA. Am I in the clear to use an external INI file?
I just talked to Jeff, and it seems that no external files are allowed (when sending in your entries) but if one of the frames generates one, that's no problem.
i was gonna enter but i dont have mmf2 yet! i'm waiting for my next paycheck to purchase it.
no tgf1? why?!
oh whew! mmf2 demo to the rescue!
theres too many rules. im afraid ill get part way done then realize im breaking a rule
I'm prototyping in TGF1, I really don't think there'd be a problem as long as you didn't use any extensions (Built in ones like INI nonwithstanding) considering .gam are fully compatible with MMF2. Worse comes to worse, have someone just save it as an mfa for you.
well i got (2 months?) to get used to mmf2dev. ill do the same and do all my coding in tgf1 and then load it in mmf2devdemo. and then eventually mmf2dev when i get it.
I'm in!! Just started working on a game now! custom graphics and freeware sounds.not sure if having music ro not but i am definately going for the most bonus points i can.
But 4/2/08 in Crazyland would be February 4th 2008... and the deadline (6/2/0 would be... two days after that. So the contest would already have ended.
Blood of the Ancient One, Seen only as Shadow, Faster than Lightning, Fierce as the Greatest Dragon, Nearly Invisible, Floating in a Dream, Entered through the Demon Door, Destroyer of Evil in a Realm with a Red Sky Scarred, Who could I be ?
Too many comments! Hmm.. this looks easy for me. No custom movement engines.
QUESTION!
If we write my own script into MMF so that MMF reads data from an external file, ist that cheating or a loophole? It's barely possible, though
Oh, and is there an action limit per event?

That means the final submitted file must use the latest build of MMF2. Meaning it's fine to use TGF to make the thing so long as you get someone to import it to MMF2 and give you back the MFA file before you submit it.

ok so i was reading the rules again and it says the entry "must be appropriate for all ages".
mine is kinda violent. not grotesquely gory, but there is some blood. now i can make it so it can be turned off, or my favorite, turn blood into flowers lol. so i dont know if its acceptable in its current state
umm, just wondering if what i'm doing is allowed...
so i'm making a shoot em up, and have made an editor for the enemies, and levels, which is a separate application that i wont include with the game, im just using it to 'code' the enemies movements in a more simple and controlled way. the editor then saves this into .txt files, which i then import into the game by just pasting it into string objects.
the game then turns it into an .ini file, and reads/interpret it to tell the enemies how to move etc.
the basic engine is pretty much done, but it would be pretty stupid to put a lot of work into it without being sure if it is allowed or not... xP
so basically:
- using a stand-alone editor
- storing the data internally in the game
- creating an .ini file from that when the game is run
So if someone says you're not allowed to write a book longer then 20 pages, who says you're not allowed to write a huge ass FAQ that fills in all the gaps. I like it.
you see, the editor saves an external text file full of nonsenes and numbers and crap,, then i just paste that into a couple of string objects into the game .mfa. when i then want the game to read it, the game creates an external .ini file out of it after starting the game... which the game then uses to do shit~
so does that count as external data or not? agh, headaches
Waffle, I think that's fine. I'm doing the same thing, minus the ini saving/loading step. External files are not allowed but if they're created by the game then it's ok, as far as I'm aware.

If you have a entry that is shaping up like the cool burning cat game I keep seeing pics of come on
over and start your thread on it and post some pics!
Very good chance that I'm entering the compo. I just need to get the graphics, sound, and music done and I'll enter

maybe ill try and make the cats one work and do a second entry.
When submitting your game please attempt to fill out the form as accurately and completely as possible, We look forward to seeing your creations and good luck!
Note: This system can accept files up to 10mb in MFA or Zip format
Are we allowed to use Object Preferences ? And the Object Qualifiers ? ... So as to put all of one type of object in "good" or whatever, then initialize it with one line of code ?

can anyone explain why fusion developers is all screwed up right now?
the forums are blank. the home page is messed up. and the 20 event compo is gone. and this 'mambo' thing is everywhere on the site.

They should have Click&Create competitions to win MMF2! <3
They never said you had to buy it all! You can use the demo version and it you can submit your game with that. Then if you win, you can buy the full version!
I went to the site yesterday to check on entries and such to find the site all screwed up, after closer inspection it would seem that just like a Pokemon the site has evolved, It's transformation is almost complete....
-No you don't need to own MMF2 to compete, just a mfa file
Why is it too late? There's over a month left?
I've barely worked on my entry and probably am not going to until June 6th... when exams (and in fact my degree) are over for me.
You have till Tuesday to make sure your entry is received, I will be posting a list of received entries here shortly, So far we have seen some great submissions it could be a tight race!
We really appreciate everyones submissions and motivation for this contest and we hope to continue doing them after this contest cycles, I have to ask that you use the rule set and take your own personal responsibility to ensure your entry fits with in the rules, I will do my best to help and catch anything that might be out of whack, but in the end it is the submitters job to verify the entry falls with in the rules!
Once again some great entries so far and we hope to see some more before this coming Tuesday!
the second list is entries we are aware of but have not yet submitted their MFA or has been lost during the F2D site crash, we would encourage those entrants to resubmit using the form or PM me with alternative methods!, If you don't see your entry in either list then UH OH! We need you submission!

Well, I really don't want to continue because my application is running into problems and I don't have enough time to resolve them and get the rest of the application done, and I'm desperate to do some other things; I've been spending most of this entire day getting this worked on.
That was a fun competition, having a very set limit that you had to work inside and around rather than simply adding to your game all the time. Learned a lot, and through all the headaches (freaking Kisguri still didn't update to the right version!!) I had a lot of fun. So thanks Kisguri for hosting such a good competition, and good luck to all the contestants
and check out the all the entries, you can download the compiled version or the Open source MFA's to see how contestants stuffed full games in under twenty events. We would ask you to respect the submitted Graphics and sounds if you choose to adapt some of the engines into your projects.....
Also during the Open Review Period the judges would love to hear from you on what you think of the entries so please leave comments located at the bottom of each entries page.....
And to the entrants thanks for competing results coming in a couple of weeks
