Hey guys, I've made a pretty quick DC chat client that doesn't run off IRC anymore..
It's not very secure yet, and it is literally just a chat (no other features yet). It's running using Sphax's MOS server at the moment, which isn't up 100%. So if somebody can let us use a server that is up often, that'd be awesome.
Anyway come and join me by clicking the chat link - and come give your ideas and suggestions for the client.
if anything the chat should be advertised somewhat, I try it every so often and there's nobody there. With the number of people on this site all the time it'd be nice if people used the chat. It might even eliminate some pointless threads
Suggestion: It'd be fun if you could implement some IRC-like commands, like /me for example, just for the hell of it. Some sort of private message system would be great, too (like a /msg command). Oh, and some kind of /brb, /afk or /away command would also be useful. It could put an icon before or after your name, to indicate that you're not at your computer at the moment.
One major problem that needs fixing first is this:
Say I have the chat open in firefox - then I go into Photoshop to do some work or something.
Whenever someone sends me a message, firefox grabs focus and photoshop is minimized. I think it's to do with how the RTF object sets text and changes the colour of text. Anybody got any idea how to solve that?
yay i'm in, love it! Yea i agree maybe admins will have a little @ symbol and the abbility to copy links would be cool. And maybe some smiley faces in there? if possible Oh and if someone is idle for like 10 min to put a away sign automaticly under his name or something.
What would really be cool if the chat had its own separate window that you can keep open and idle a bit if you dont talk also right now if someone talk it goes to that window

If it's an external app, why would people use it over Gwerdy Chat? (I don't think they would )
Also with an exe file I'd have to build in some sort of way of allowing you to login to your DC account using your DC password - which will take too much time for me, and will also increase security risk of your passwords.. So it's a no-go area for now.
For Vitalize to work in Firefox you need to download the .exe file from the Vitalize site and actually install it to your whole computer - the actual Firefox plugin doesn't seem to work.
Also.. I've made a few updates..
* Username security improved
Can no longer edit the HTML to use other people's usernames.
* Multiple connections prevented
Can no longer connect to the chat more than once per account. So no more cloning!
* /me command added
People were asking for the /me command, so it's there now..
* Admin commands added
Admins can now kick and mute using the /kick and /mute commands. At the moment there is no way of identifying an admin (I tried but it's going to take some time because of the way I coded the thing). But basically, admins for the DC are all admins in the chat.
