Last year, my little sister's DS got a crack in its left hinge. Several months later later, that hinge broke thus detaching the screen from the system, making games unplayable. She had to pay $70 to get it repaired.
Later my DS got a crack. The odd thing is:
1. I don't abuse my system
2. It happened in the same exact spot
Now the crack is growing. Look:
The death of my system is inevitable now. Has this happened to anyone else?
I don't have a DS, but can't you claim a warranty for it?

I didn't buy an extended warranty because all my other Nintendo products up till now have been top quality. My Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Game boy Color, N64, etc... all still work like they are brand new. My mistake I guess.
I have original ds, and my sis has lite version. And we have played them a lot, but this has never occured... I think you have opened the ds too hard, because the crack is on that kind of spot...
I have proven new mathematic formula to be true...
My 3rd white DS Lite had this problem. Oddly enough I don't think it affects the other colours. But the black DS has a problem with the Dpad. The DS Lite is their worst built system. Even my NES and classic GB are in fully working order!
Ring Nintendo and find out what you can do. They replaced any DS Lites with even a slight cracked hinge free of charge, they even replace DS's if you have just 1 dead pixel. They might fix it out of warranty since it's a known problem.
If you call Nintendo and bitch about it, they'll usually offer to fix it for free (Less shipping). The hinge probem is well known. Might be SOL if you didn't register the system though.
