I started playing Mega Man 1 today on my emulator with no cheats, and no save states. OMG. The game is easier then I thought, but its still hard as balls and my thumbs are in serious pain.
Has anyone ever beaten this game without cheating or save states???

Once or twice, its a real kick in the nuts difficulty.>.<
Ive seen a tool assisted speedrun and it got totally destroyed, so it's hard to believe it's really hard (although TASes make all games look easy)
Ive never cared for the megaman games though.

Woah, hold on. Are you saying that you have legitimatly finished Megaman 1 on the NES? I tried it on an emulator and it took me about 100 save states. I'm not kidding.
Tell 'em Babs is 'ere...

With no cheats and no save states I've made to Wiley's castle.
When you beleive in yourself and you dont give up you can do anything.

DONT BOTHER WITH DX, NETWORK BATTLE FORCE AND ALL THAT CRAP.
PLAY THOSE AND TELL ME YOU DONT LIKE MEGAMAN.
This man clearly has no idea what he's talking about. 6 was pretty crap.
The X series introduced the iconic dash (I loves it) and the Zero series was hard as titanium balls (But still awesome). Even the much hated Legends (Or DASH) series was pretty fun. Wasn't a fan of the Battle Network or Starforce series though. ZX is kinda meh; it essentially lost it's iconic characters and tries a bit too hard to be Metroidvania like in presentation. I like it because I still like the gameplay, but it's like playing a shadow of a better game.
Megaman 1 is hard to play, I miss the slide and the weapon charge. Didn't play the NES version alot, but I did play the GB version (Dr. Wily's Revenge) which was also balls hard (And lacked charge and sliding). I've slaughtered all the GB games pretty thoroughly, I was rather disappointed to learn that Capcom lost the source code when they were planning on putting all of them together in a GBA collection.
Craps, I'm an old man!

Megaman 6 was no different then Megaman 5. 5 wasnt that much better then 4 but they were all good games.
The villians in the X series were wack, Zero was lame, and those sequels never stopped. Are they still making them?
Oh wow...you can dash...how amazing...
As far as Im concerned there are only 6 megaman games and theyre all on the nes.

X was where the main focus was at that point. Megaman V on the GB was freaking great though (Megafist! An awesomely bad name for a weapon.)
Respect the old school he tells me; obviously you have no idea. I grew up in the "old school"; I'm just not a snob about it. Not everything has gone downhill since 1989.
That we did. Though I only knew 1 person with a Commodore and the only Acorn I saw was at school.
Before the Amiga and NES days we just had a Spectrum.
How come nobody likes the BN series? It's my favorite... Of course, I guess whichever series you play at that age is your favorite. I like all of them. Hope a wii title is coming from e3.

Did any of these machines break America?
I don't think many of the british made computers even bothered. Amstrad might have sold a few PCW's i think. But there was too much competition from American made computers like the Atari 800 and Apple 2.
This conversation has gone a bit offtopic, but returning to the original post... I've beaten all NES Mega Mans with PS2 (Mega Man Anniversary Collection) and some with emulators. I got also MM4 in my Nintendo Enterntainment System and I've played it trough also with that.
Anyways, Mega Man 1 was one of the classics and the hardest part of it was getting to the Ice Man's boss room across the huge pit using the bridge-creating beam weapon... God.
I bought MM4 and an NES as Goodwill, but I never play it... I think maybe I might have played it for 30 seconds four times... I bought the thing to hack it.

I meant respect the old megamans. I didnt mean games in general.
I just played megaman 1 through few weeks ago with nesDS, and well I cheated on the dr willy stage (press L on nesDS and you can do prince of persia effect...)
I have proven new mathematic formula to be true...
Well that's true but when millions of people say something is good, chances are it is. Like Super Mario Bros 3. I'm sure some hater out there thinks it's crap, but I've never heard anyone say it. Everyone I know says its perfect.
I've never beaten any megman game but I still love them. I must've played megaman X a million times but the only boss I was ever able to beat was chill penguin. I'll beat that game someday. Somehow.
I think between Megaman anniversary collection and Megaman X collection I've got pretty much all the big ones. Those 2 games would probably last me a lifetime.

Im sure I could kill all 46 robot masters on the nes versions but I cant beat any of Dr. Wileys castles.
I beat Megaman 1 on Megaman Anniversary Collection. Those castles of Wily's are so hard. The only one I ever beat was the one in Megaman & Bass for GBA, and that was King's Castle for the first two parts.
I never beat Megaman 1, but I did beat Megaman Zero #1 on Hard Mode(YOU CAN'T CHARGE IN HARD MODE!!! WHICH IS A TOTAL PAIN WHEN USING A SHORT RANGE WEAPON!)

I wouldn't. The original 3 titles were great but anything outside of that (as in Mega and Super Turrican) are pretty pants. I like Factor 5 but I doubt they could get across the same scale, the same charm and grounbreaking-ness of the first 3.
I beat mega man 1 on the NES.
I beat all 6 robot masters using mega buster only (even elecman =P) and defeated yellow devil without using the select cheat. TAKE THAT!!!
I could beat any of the megaman games with all secrets found the first day.As for the X series, I can speedrun Megaman X close to the WR (maybe beat it if i tried ?_?) with all secrets found. I beat megaman x 2 and had all secrets the first day. Same with x4. I can't stand x3 though, overrated pos game.
I just don't see whats so difficult about them. Sure the nes ones are difficult, but damn. . . they're so simplistic that its kinda sad if you cant beat them and you consider yourself a gamer =[.
And how in the world is the zero series hard? I beat the first one uh . . .possibly before or right after it came out on a keyboard. Thats a lot harder than on the GBA and i wouldn't really call it that difficult.

I've played ONE megaman game. Megaman Legends. The start was OK... but after that it was draggy. was kind of annoying to control Megaman in such a horrid fashion of movement. Megaman games are pretty lame, but Megaman himself looks sweet.

I actually lol'd at that last sentence .
I never had a NES, I'm so young .
I don't have ANY game console, and I'm past puberty! LOL
@ andy
Yea I agree with you, I really shouldn't judge people by my own standards. I'm just surprised at the number of people that find certain videogames to be difficult.
I guess I'm sort of an elitist when it comes to gaming on certain levels. I'm not really much of a hardcore gamer anymore, but I have been better than most people at videogames ever since I was hella young so I guess maybe its just a natural thing. I tend to be at least decent at the things I have an extreme interest for.
Source is nowhere near suited for competitive play as 1.6 was .
HL2 DM is kinda boring. Pretty sure I would get schooled in that because I lack the interest. Maybe if i played it for a bit.
Do you play any other shooters? Honestly I prefer oldies but goodies like unreal tournament/quake/deathmatch classic/half life 1 deathmatch, but ill play most things.
If we can come to a consensus I would be glad to play against you in a FPS as long as you're up for it.
Meh, FPS' are Ok, but I prefer Beat em ups, adventure, action games, and some RPG games. The only FPS' I liked were JK2 Jedi Outcast and JK3 Jedi Academy.
I like most any game, but for fps's ive played: Halo (the pc versions), Quake 3 arena, Unreal (2004 and '0, Nerf: Arena Blast, JK: JA, Serious Sam 1 and 2, Enemy Territory, In Cold Blood, Medal of Honor, and more...
Vegeta? What does your mother say about my power level?

those are just the pc titles!
My all time favorite multi is halo one with no shields or vehicles, the shotties weapons, and Battle Creek
I play on ~24/7 shotgun rotation~ , the most popular server ever. My name is "a pacifist" in case you see me.
OMG wtf I didn't even hit post once! sorry guys.

when I had that Back in the day on my NES, the Clay Monster Kicked my ass for Honest to god nearly 3 months,
every other bit of the game before that was just right on the difficulty,
once I got the clay-boy down, I finished the rest of it in the same night...
btw, how about MM2 ? yet again, Back in the day on my NES, my best was whole game complete with 15 lives spare, that was my Favorite one, MM2,
MM9 on WII is the reason Ive hacked my WII but I still cant get that WiiWare to work

Time for a Sexy Party!

Why would you hack a Wii to play Mega Man 9? Do you not want to pay for it or something?
I can't believe that I still never said that I beat that game. But not with Proto Man (that is so difficult), on Hard Mode (never bought it) or Super Hard Mode (never bought that either). Although I did beat the Special Stage with Fake Man, where the stage is much harder than the actual boss.
