You know, i don't really make comments, front page or otherwise. However, i feel i really must comment here. As games made by clickers get better and better, players will begin to weed out the lesser ones. This doesn't mean the lesser ones are bad games, it just means that more people have to step up to the bar. If FIG wasn't made this week, we'd still have a 3 way tie going. This week seems no exception. With R.O.B.M.S sweeping the title fairly easily. Not that i'm complaining or anything, I have nothing to offer click players yet. What i'm just saying, is that a few months or so ago, even last year, you wouldn't see a game like Iffermoon or FIG sweep titles like they did. Since quite possibly, we'll see more of this, and since those 'lesser' games are still appreciated, I think that some of them, should get a second chance. Especially if there's a tie or close race between second place games. Then those games should be given a second GOTW chance. The title would probably be 2nd GOTW or something. Also there would still be a GOTW which would be given more precedence over last weeks runner up. I'm not trying to ridicule the GOTW category or anything. I'm just saying that those second place games are sometimes awesome too. They should at least be given a second chance to prove themselves. Or at least see who would come out on top. Meh, this should probably go in the forums. Sorry for the long post. Just had to say something.

Hate to break it to you, but this is in the forum... (just kidding )
I think it's fine tbh. Most of the games on this site are noticed anyway, GOTW is only a title, and let's face it- it's not like they used to be. Getting news on the front page of TDC used to be really special, but it doesn't seem like it anymore
Well, that's the thing about making games. You'll either hit or miss. You could spend months, even years on a game, and the only thing a lot of them win is a GOTW. I've seen plenty of great games miss the GOTW, whereas in the following week(s) a really bad game would win. Heck, I hated the GOTW for years because of how that's always happened. But in a sense, GOTW has become sort of like a TDC ritual, just the way putting 'decent' games on the front page.
I'd disagree with Adam about how it used to be special to get a game on the front page. The only time it actually was special was when the TDC admins got too lazy to put every decent game on the front page.. so some games actually got to be there. But a lot of new games have been making it up there lately since a few months ago when the front page would stay for almost a week without any news.
I think the new spotlight feature should help balance things out a bit
But if you want good games to be recognized.. I think someone should start up some alternate klik sites, or klikers should start posting their games on indie sites rather than just klik sites.

That would be a good way to spread teh klik. People should post links to indie sites that allow you to submit your own games. And yes, a few more klik-sites would be good! And remember, he aint' scared of you muthafu**az.
@Eternal: yes i know, i posted this on the GOTW front page section first though
@Muz and every1 else: Good points. It is nice seeing more games being given recognition in that way. I thought it could be a little extra motivation to some people. We might get a few better games or so this way. But anyways, its still good. Thanks for posting.

Talk about demoting a site you work on, lol.
Well, that's how it's always been. I'm a little pissed off about it at times Front page recommendations are just as special as winning GOTW.. sometimes on a slow week a crap game will make it in front. On active weeks, a lot of fairly good games get ignored, but I still recommend them in front if I like them.
maybe the new 'recommended game' feature helps as well if there are two great games in 1 week and one doesn't get GOTW.
Yeah, I'd like to use the "recommendation star" tag a few times, but the only TDC game I've been playing lately was FIG. Iffermoon was something I'd just "recommend" not "highly recommend", but eh, some other admin loved it.

So if you trip in the Olympic 100metre sprint they should rerun it? Just face it, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. If you're that determined to have the "lesser games" promoted, you might as well had out gold medals to everyone.

thats a rubbish analogy.
To correct the analogy: Say you have 2 100m heats and a guy comes fourth in one heat and doesn't get through but ran a time faster than the guy who came second in the other heat and he DID get through. Which is why in heats they dont go just by the winners of the heats but also by quickest time of those that didnt win...
much like if 2 good games come out in one week, one may get forgotten, whereas in the next week all games are bollocks and 1 gets praised with GOTW while the pro game from the previous week is forgotten.
I must say, I download more games than I ever used to. I guess it's because they're shoved in your face when you visit the homepage. So i grab a few new ones instead of going straight to the forums.
Lol, to be honest, there are just too many good games out there. I really don't have the time to play all of them and recommending just one of those games means that I'm unrecommending everything else.

I agree with Adam about front paging seeming special before, back in the day I would look in awe at those who got posted - because they had been deemed worthy. The GoTW has never held that much significance to me since it really is luck of the draw (Except for the ones I won, those were earned baby )
It's nice to see more games getting recognised with the admin recommendation stars, we could push it further with GoTYear awards as previously suggested still.
Gee, i didn't know i'd stir up a big controversy. I just wanted to let people know that there was more then 1 good game a week. I guess that's what the spotlight thing has kinda fixed anyways. My bad.

Clearly whichever won was the game of the week, if you felt like you should've won, you should've released it at a different time.
Lul.
Yeah, but you dont know if someone is going to submit a better game then you unless you can see the future.
With this new system, could they not also add a bronze and silver trophy. You get a silver trophy on your profile for second place and bronze for third, and if you ever get a better rank, it replaces the lower trophy. But nothing for honourable mention.
Everyone agrees that a game like FIG deserves a Game of the Week, or at least some award of equal value. But if it's released the same week as something like Tormishire or The Underground then it's screwed. Imagine if the next week the only people to upload anything are people who participated in a 5 minute Pong clone competition. How is it fair that a crappy Pong clone gets a Gotw while FIG doesn't?
Gotw seems like a really great award, but it really depends on what other games were released that week. This is why the Voting system is better. Seems like Gotw awards should just go to games that got 4 stars or above in their first week or something like that?
On the other hand, we could just leave it as it is and you have to hope for the best when uploading your game!
H'bout we give a special award to those games that were good, but didn't beat the uber-release? A little Shiny star ribbon thingie. We could have separate GOTW polls. Instead of having second and third place determined by the GOTW poll, have a separate poll for peoples' second favorite. I thought at first that this could be a little confusing, but the longer I think about it, the more it makes sense. O_o

It was always a controversial topic, lol. It's just that everyone who used to argue about it is no longer here

There are some good points to this thread. I personally think an ideal would be to put the last few weeks of games (2-4 weeks) up for GOTW, that way if there are two very good games that incidentally come out the same week, one of them doesn't get the shaft.
The basis of this is the workability of professional game rating and the Game of the Year system. If mags like PC Gamer and sites like Gamespot called the Game of the Year in January, the great ones that come out in the summer or fall wouldn't get recognition. I'm not saying we should do a GOTY, but a GOTW with the last few weeks of games would be a good idea.

Also, Jonny didn't get his trophy yet.
I like the sound of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places too, but only if there are more than 3 games in the poll .
