And Neogaf is exploding with rumours of VC playback for this new DS. Not even my PSP can play some SNES games that well, hopefully a legal emulator from Ninty themselves will get these games full speed on the DS.
Also got an update for the Wii soon which will let you run games off the SD card. Sin & Punishment 2, cheap Wii enhanced GC remakes actually happening now (Finally get to play Pikmin! Hope they do the same for Metroid Prime 1), and some other stuff. Think there's a new Punchout game too.
This would be the best thing in the world if they had kept the GBA slot. it means when I play rumble enabled games, I wont be able to use the rumble feature, I can't unlock some games full potential such as "Feel the Magic XY/XX"/"Project Rub" and more, due to the lack of GBA port. Everything else sounds good though. Hope we see these before the end of the year, as even though I'm annoyed about the GBA port, it sounds pretty good. (If the price is right)
I need the GBA slot for my flash card! Can't test homebrew on this model without a new card :\.
At least there should be a flood of cheap DS Lites as people trade in for these, I can pick one up on the cheap to replace my classic with the dodgy screen and the terrible battery life.
Also rumours that GB and GBC games are coming to the VC, or at least for the DS's VC. For the right price I'd pick up a Pokemon Crystal or something so long as you could transfer them to the DS versions :3
Sweet. I wasn't expecting to hear about this for another few days... But I think it was a dumb move to remove the GBA slot.
Ben, I got an original DS for Christmas the year it came out (I don't know who from), and its battery life is still ridiculously long... O_o Weeird.
Oh, and yea, I don't know if it was here, or some other site... but someone was doubting that Metroid Prime 1 & 2 would ever be ported to Wii. I'm happy about it.

So Europe don't get these little babies 'til next year... Somebody help, I'm getting tempted to import! Could be major regional differences though, maybe I should just wait it out.

My only problem is that the release list for the GB & GBA is going to be at the same mercy the VC list is. Whenever Nintendo decides to release a game. While it does mean we might get some japanese only games; it's gonna take them a long time to build up to any sort of library; and that kinda sucks.
I'm wondering how much these things are gonna go for on eBay, and when we'll get the DSi only games. I'm not particularly thrilled, it's like the DS 1.5 and you can bet this thing is their "next" handheld. Let's hope the L and R buttons are better.

This is most definitely not their DS replacement, just another iteration. I highly doubt there will be DSi-only games. Sometimes GBA games are region locked, but I don't know about DS games...
Well the original feed was sketchy and badly translated. Apparently there is still just 1 touchscreen? Either way Nintendo wouldn't release games that needed 2, just DS ware apps likely. Since the original DS can't play them at all.
Oh and the battery life is 4 hours on maximum setting. Boo. What I loved about the Lite on holiday was I could play it on the plane, on the bus and for a couple of days at the house without charging. 4 hours is really too short.
I find myself using the lowest setting on my lite except for almost direct sunlight because it's just too bright. Not really sure if I'm going to pick this up. I think I might just pick up one of those sweet OpenPandora systems instead.

Ah, my mistake. Seems to be similar to the iPhone one (Ninty are after the iPod Touch, doncha know). The dashboard one is a curly 'i'. But it's the same typeface! There's no concave dip to the stick of the i, and the distance seems the same. Meh. I studied typography for too long
The only locking on a Nintendo handheld was supposed to be the region lockout for transferring Pokemon GBA games to the DS. But that seems to not work... I can copy them over from both my UK and US GBA games.
