It's Halloween time and to me theres nothing better than a good scary game this time of year. I just started Silent Hill for the Xbox 360 and I'm loving it so far. My all time fav's are Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil 2. My fav's here are Subzero Conditions part one and two.
Games don't scare me anymore but when I used to play Resident Evil 2, I'd never play it without company. One other thing that always got me was those Octobrains from Duke Nukem 3D. Mainly because I was crappy at video games back then and if I could hear one down the corridor I already knew I was dead. They make creepy noises too. ;__;
Edit: There were games before that which scared me, but these were probably for stupid reasons I wont go into. :$
This game was awesome, ha ha me and my brothers used to play it everyday.
Sub Zero Conditions on here is awesome too, I never beat the 2nd one, but the first was fun, I've played through it about 3 times
Hahah, I noticed your sig -Liam-, I is 100% gangsta, yo!
Your just jealous that you're not as awesome as me.
(And my megaman avatar )
Far Cry - the first time you encounter the mutants was creepy (after that they were pretty crappy!)
Manhunt - playing this on HARD (ie without the radar) on your first go... very atmospheric. Scary, almost!
.....and there was a PS2 game that i can't remember that i wanted to add. I'll remember it when i shut my laptop down!
My fav Horror game of time is Eternal Darkness. The insanity effects were brilliant!
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T PLAYED (you should play it)...
Walk into a room, and suddenly your limbs start to fall off for no reason! Bugs look like there crawling all over the screen (or blood dripping). My favorite (I freaked out) is when it looked like my memory card was being erased! I actually jumped when you go into the bathroom and see yourself dead in the bath tub full of blood! AHHH!!
The story is great as well. Also the fighting is awesome (target spacific limbs and chop!) If you have a Game Cube (or Wii... cause it's compatable, don't ya know) GET THIS GAME NOW!!
I heard rumors of a sequel coming to the Wii. That would be AWESOME!!!
I've never really played any horror games. But I remember back when the N64 was Oh-so-awesome and other-worldly (I didn't play video games when I was little) that I went to a friend's house, and TLoZ: OoT's zombies spooked me out. Laughable, eh?
I get really into the atmosphere and feel when I'm doing ANYTHING at all, so if I'm playing a spooky game, I'll be so concentrated and into it that anything that might pop up or pose a threat frightens me. =P I love it cuz I get to feel loads of adrenaline stting down at at a desk. =P
Profile edited as it messed the layout of the site up.
I remembered that game i was on about earlier - an underated and underplayed 1st person shooter called Project Snowblind. The latter levels based in sewers made me jump a few times as shadows dashed passed you against the tight and atmospheric sewer walls! Such a bargain too, think i paid £10 new for it!
The only other game to make me jump this way was Resi 1, the infamous 'dog jumping through window scene'. I wasn't expecting it!
I never could get into Resident Evil 1 or 2, not because they were scary or anything, but because the controls are terrible. (holding two buttons just to aim?)
The voice acting doesn't help either.
I've played Silent Hill 1 to 4 on the PC, and I very much liked all of them. (part 4 being the least good but still good, and part 1 played on a PSX emulator =/ )
Resident Evil 3 was probably the only game that really scared me. Not because of the zombies or anything but cause of Nemesis. The stupid thing wouldnt die even after you unloaded tons of clips into him.
Besides that, re3 was alright. Re1 was the best though, story wise i mean. re2 was loong and also quite enjoyable. As for re4, I dont know. It was good but I think they're moving away from their classic gameplay. yes, the shooting was a pain, but they could have just changed that instead of totally changing the camera and engine. I liked the old engine better for some reason.
As for the silent hill games, they've never really scared me. Disturbed me perhaps, but never scared me. The 2nd SH, which is supposedly great, I didnt even play it more than once. For some reason, i found the story cheesy and stupid. especially when I got the guy with the green coat all the way to the end just to watch him commit suicide. SH1 and 3, I love though. And the movie; it was brilliant. Stayed true to its roots unlike the resident evil movies (which are crap btw).
Oh, the level on Half life 2 where there are tons of brain-thingies roaming around. That was scary. Im talking about the level in which the preacher-guy tosses you a shotgun.

lol bad ending
Seriously though, you're right about Silent Hill being more about disturbing the player. It doesn't have as much cheapo jump-scare moments as Resident Evil (a certain dog and a certain window come to mind)
"Ehhhhh?! Where did you hear that? Silicon Knights (the chaps who own the game) only make games for MS now."
It was an interview... on IGN about a year ago I think... Could be wrong. Maybe it was a just a beautiful dream. LOL! I'm gonna have to search for it now!
I would be more than happy with an Xbox version! It seem MS is buying up all the good developers, huh?

Definitely. That's a classic moment from Resident Evil 1 Hunters scared me though. They always killed me. Heck, even Chris was afraid of those things and he was laughing at Tyrant when Wesker unveiled it. Oh, I remember being sad when the nurse girl in SH1 turns into a nurse-zombie. The so-called god in SH3 was pretty disturbing in an awesome way As was pyramid head guy, especially in the movie.
"Ravenholm in half life 2 scared the crap out of me. But the preacher guy was really funny."
