...a music section? Various artists could add their music to the section for others to download(If allowed) and rate. Otherwise we're gonna keep using the forums for this stuff. And while it's ok to use the forums, it's much tidier to use a section.

Hmm. Maybe a media section as a whole? Because as it stands now there is only that board for digital works. A dedicated section next to projects and downloads for art/music might be kinda coo.
I agree. It would all be very cool, but OMC makes a point. There aren't many artists here, but if we can get a nice polished art section, possibly it will attract more artists, and therefore, more members.
Maybe by having a large selection of artwork, people will be impressed by the quantity of the work that's been added.
Newgrounds.com has a large selection of aspiring artists as well as flash submissions, so it's possible we can do the same; just upload all the things you're willing to share. Chances are the date of upload would be shown, so maybe to make it look less suspicious only upload a couple of things every day or week or whenever.
And to refine the section, seperate the pixelart, drawings, sketches, and the like from the music and sounds.
If it flourished like you wanted it to, it could easily get out of hand. :\ Nothing would be organized and everything would need to be named properly... I dunno. I'm all for sharing our non-game digital works, but I think posting in the forum is the best way to do it.
Accepting the forums won't increase the traffic of members; that's another reason why I suggested this. The main reason is because it'd just be awesome to have an art section. (I love drawing... |3) And if the names are misleading just tell an Admin.

Ok, I have a new idea on sorting things. So when you go into the Art section and you choose Drawings and sketches or Music and Sounds, they split into branches. I can't put these into branches without it looking incredibly cluttered, so here's my point.
The drawings are seperated from the music, and the split into branches when you click either one. If you click on music it would have branches that would say "Rock", "Techno", "Dance", "R&B", "Jazz", "Classical", "Sound effects", or whatever. The art work would split into branches that would say "Pixel art", "Pencil", "Pen", "Paintbrush", or whatever.
Exactly. A Section for aspiring musicians and graphic artists could also encourage others to do the same. While it'd be great just having an art section, it's even greater to have a full art section filled up by new and veteran users. And if you haven't noticed lately, we've been seeing quite a few new members lately, some of which could have potential. If the art section gets big enough more people will come to TDC and check it out, and eventually check out other things. So basically the plan would be to have an awesome art section just to show off your stuff, while attracting new members.

I think an art section would be a great ideal! I would like it if you could access the art also through a persons profile. Like if I clicked on Dr. James or Adam I would see the art they contributed.

It's really easy to constructively comment on art too, seeing as how most of it is just a shading issue. Most of the art posted on the forums gets decent feedback already, so having a section for this is moot.
Any aspiring musicians will be hard-pressed to get any good feedback from this community, I think. How many of us know what equalization or compression are, and how they affect sound quality? What a low pass filter or flanger is? I'd wager that the only feedback musicians would get is whether or not the song is liked, not why it's liked or how it can be improved or changed. A music section might encourage people to post more music, but who can actually make a constructive comment to help improve on the music? This isn't a music site, so I'd say not many. Hell, I often visit music sites and I can't even make a constructive comment. You have to really understand music theory and technical music jargon in order to be of any help; For instance, who can tell me the difference between an E# and an F?
Perhaps people should start tagging their threads better, with [ART] to indicate that they're trying to showcase their art, or [MUSIC] if they're posting music. An entire section for this is a waste of everyone's time.

That's what premade loops are for, man. And you're making it sound like only serious artists can make music. Dude, think again. People on Newgrounds are just random anybodies who will likely post a few songs and drop out. The same goes for drawings. Adam: I think more people would know those things than you think. Everyone knows that compression affects quality, and equalization is hardly something we'd need to worry about here. Most music that is posted would likely be in MIDI form, (or originated as a midi-type file) so low-pass filters and flangers are quite unrelated. I'll bet anyone who's seen a keyboard more than twice in their life knows that an E# is an F. (Which doesn't matter at all) People don't need to know music jargon to know what patterns are pleasing and what is enjoyable. Is the advice, "The part between 3:30 and 3:40 needs more drums and less piano" any less useful than "Add some toms and high-hats on track 4 from 3:30 to 3:40 and set the piano track's dynamic to pianissimo"?

I know you were being sarcastic... but the way you said it made it seem like it was supposed to be obvious that music should have its own section or the games should not. *shrugs*
If you don't have recording equipment, loops are fine and awesome... But not something that should have a section dedicated to them. Music sections (it seems to me at least) should have original music, not choice selections of premade stuff. That's like dedicating a game section on a site where people only know how to use Clickteam's stock sprites. it can look good, but it's not yours, if you know what I mean.

Hah, Newgrounds. Most of the serious artists on NG don't like the way the audio portal works. They don't like the rating system, they don't like premade loops. They don't like the random nobodies who just say, "I like this music," either. Now, NG has tons of music because you just upload and it's on there immediately (unless you're a first timer). You can upload whatever you want, and that's why there are over 260,000 "songs" on the site; Most of them aren't quality songs (or loops), but just random nobodies slapping premade loops together and calling it music. The best music on NG comes from the people who aren't making music for the lulz, but because they enjoy making music. If I had to guess, only a small fraction of the songs on NG are of such quality, with maybe 50 artists who actually enjoy making the best music they can. Guess where you can find most of these people: In the NG audio forums!

What if they're written as two separate notes? How do you play an F as a different note?
I think that a MUCH better and Less Resource-Wasting idea would be to ORGANISE the LINKS and throw in LINKS to MUSIC SITES in the MUSIC LINK SECTION, and throw in LINKS to ART SITES in the ART SECTION, (ripped sprite sites should NOT be considered ART). And of course other sites with potential human resources of artists, musicians, coders, etc.

Tbh I don't think all members would hate premade loops- There was a member by the name of "Fat Barry (lul wut. )" and his song was made entirely from Mixcraft. His song was number 1 in the funk section. How do I know it was premade loops? I use Mixcraft.
Also I honestly wouldn't assume they don't like people saying "I like this song. It's really cool.". In fact, I really don't thing anyone but the artist cares.

People upload their tracks so people can rate, enjoy, and discern quality. If it's crap, it's crap. If it's good, it's good. I've downloaded a bunch of songs from newgrounds and I was really impressed. Some weren't so good, but hey- The members decided that. Again, you're making it sound like only aspiring musicians should be allowed to post music. Wether or not it's fun, everybody should be able to do it with no bickering attached. While I fully agree that you should make music because it's fun, that doesn't mean music should only be made with a grin.

I have heard alot of good songs- most of which are trance (Getting kinda old... ).
I'd have to say you're right about only 50 artists of such quality on newgrounds, but as I've said, the plan is also to attract more musicians. Not BETTER musicians.

I'm not saying only aspiring musicians can post music. I'm saying that TDC is not the site aspiring musicians would go to if they're looking to improve their music. Having a music isn't going to attract more musicians, either; There's already music here, so why should they contribute? If you want to attract more musicians, then give them incentive to come here and post music. No, the promise of having your song used in a game is not good enough. You have to show them that their music is needed.
A "Help Wanted!" section would be more useful. Posting videos/screenshots of your game in action, and with note that you're looking to add music, will encourage people to come. Take Tormishire, for example: Imagine the trailers have no music. How many musicians would come flocking to try and get their musical stylings into the game? Then take Peko Falls, same deal as before: How many people would come flocking to get their musical styling in? Here's a general idea: Peko Falls would probably draw one or two people in, while Tormishire would draw more in. Why? Presentation. Tormi looks polished and you get an immediate idea of what the game is about, while Peko Falls looks rather ambiguous at this time.
This "help wanted" section could be largely avoided if the front page was actually updated with these postings, likely if they were batch postings as news items.
