Tonight! Will anyone else be watching? I'm a sucker for it and end up watching it every year. I am glad to see they finally changed the voting system a little- it will be interesting to see if the results still remain as political and biased like previous years gone by or if the new system actually works/helps.
Lol, wtf is that? I'm embarrassed to admit that the song is catchy, though
Heh, all the talent competitions seem to be thinning out every year. The talented ones get it right the first time, then you have all the 2nd rate ones reapplying the next few years. But if you're lucky some new, talented guy will sneak in this time. They don't show the European stuff here though

that crap still exists ?
winning the eurovision contest has no real value whatsoever, it's more political driven than most would like to admit and the concept of the contest itself is rotten to the bone.
In any other kind of contest, the best contestant wins, but in this one nobody can't really say the "best" song won. Every one has it's own musical taste, and how are you supposed to get a fair result having so many genres mixed in a single contest ?
And why doesn't the uk enter with the arctic monkeys, finland with children of bodom, portugal with moonspell or georgia with katie melua, just to give some examples ? I mean they are way better and more popular than their countries's current contestants.
That contest is just broken and doesn't make any sense for me.

Did you fail to read the part where I said the voting system had changed slightly? It's now 50% public vote and 50% expert judges from each country.

Because they suck ?
I did read that part and as astounding as it sounds it doesn't change a thing, other than make the contest lose it's identity even more and make it look like the international version of American/pop Idol.
And without even looking at whoever entered this year, I'm pretty sure the arctic monkeys have more fans than the uk's 5 or 6 previous entries combined. And in case you didn't get it, I mentioned the arctic monkeys like I could have mentioned the police, radiohead, muse or iron maiden for example.
I just love ESC - one of the greatest form of entertainment! I watch it every year. The music is horrible, who cares, it's a good show.
The main problem with Eurovision song contest is that some people simply take it too seriously.
The idea is not come up with the best song musically, lyrically or in any other way. It's about getting the most votes from European voters, and it's fun to see what sort of a performance gets people voting. If there's 10 ballads in the final, you simply cannot win with a ballad. If there's 10 heavy metal songs, no way. You got to differentiate enough to catch people's attention. Who can differentiate with "tolerable quality", wins. You could win even with silence (if the rules would accept it), it's an interesting concept.

Exactly. Regardless of who is judging it you're still comparing musical tastes.
My respect for music is why I don't watch Eurovision.
