I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories, the old adventure yarns of conquering unknown worlds untouched by man etc. In so many of these romps there's frequently a science man, a man of the land who knows how to handle a gun and a general thicko who's younger than the rest and there entirely by accident, acting as the narrator of the story. As well as a 'loyal negro' (coined in more ignorant times) by their side who gets killed somehow, probably for being black. Brains, brawn and borderline moron who halfway through has some flash of ingenuity and saves everyone. I love all that nonsense and it's comfortably present here. Great book.
Who's read it?
Edited thicksh... to thicko as per rules.

Oh hell, I remember that when it first came out years ago (if it's the British production you're referring to). I vaguely remember a drunken Bob Hoskins fleeing from a greenscreen.

Ah, so it wasn't the one you were referring to, I thought it mightn't be. That production somehow manages to look even less true to the source than the UK alternative.

Yes it goes way off. They travel though time, meet aliens, find the fountain of youth, find a remaining part of the Romen empire etc... It's the ultimate sci-fi show.
