Back in August 2006 I ran a competition - http://www.create-games.com/forum_post.asp?id=167313 - in which the participants were encouraged to create an advert for their game to appear on television by the combined use of game footage and anything else they could think of.
TV spots are noticably different to actual trailers that frequent the internet - and in the three years that have passed since this competition ran, new klikkers have joined the scene and have created some very stunning looking games that have been released or are in the pipeline.
So, this year I'm going to run the competition again! Create a video advert/spot promoting a game of yours and then upload it to YouTube. This is just a fun little competition that will also promote your game - there are no prizes or time limit (since I'm no longer a DC admin I cannot hand out points (only donate them, but I'm a tightwad).
One of the last top three entrants has disappeared from YouTube, but the other two (by Phizzy and David Clarke) are still there though:
Yeah, I'd like to see this compo again (I missed the original one)
But there are too many compos at the same time
But I guess making an Ad for a game your making for another compo could work, like those working on the Hilarious compo could make an Ad for their entry.
P.S. I can donate points, I don't really use them. And a guy keeps donating me some.
There are a few competitions floating around, this is true, but not everyone is going to want to enter them. So I just added another one to give an extra option.
This is a fantastic idea. I will provide DC points as a prize if you'd like, though I don't know if you'll get many entrants what with AndyUK's compo, W3R3W00F's compo, and Black Jaguar's compo...
Are multiple entries allowed? Because I'm making a puzzle game, and I'd like to promote that, but Drill Bits is begging for an advert. (I could also make a cheesy 80's advert for Snatch, but I don't feel like running around in a monkey costume or renting offices to record in. Plus the whole "I don't have a camcorder" thing.)
Hey, Carnivorous id! This competition is calling your name!
Hey guys, if you need a spritist or someone to create anything about art:
-Logos
-Cut-scenes
-Sprites
and all sort of other things, then just send me an email or PM me!
Just working on the static material first (don't have Final Cut installed on my new machine ). And ignore the system icons that's all just for added advert effect.
I have something new that I've been working on that I might want to use for this . I can't wait to post it, just need to finish up a few last things, and talk to some people. And wow, this is the prefect compo for what I was making. Its a survival horror and that's as far as I'll go (as I'm not exactly sure I should of said anything). I was already working on this before I saw this. But anyways, any deadline yet?
Any type of video is acceptable as long as it advertises your game and somewhat resembles a TV spot rather than an internet trailer - but all need to appear on YouTube.
I have decided on a closing date...
August 1st
So you've got a fair while yet and it might give you time to focus on other competitions floating around.
Just to bump this topic up a bit, I just want to remind everyone interested in this that there is less than a month left - closing date is August 1st. I'll be flexible about timezones!
I'm tempted to enter this. I've been wanting a decent video editing project to sink my teeth into for a while now. Only thing is my current project I've been messing with has no graphics... Ah well, I'm sure I can come up with something!
There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Just to bump this up yet again, please don't forget that you have until Saturday August 1st 2009 (that's, from the time of this post, 9 DAYS to upload your TV spot entries to YouTube. Please post the links in this thread and good luck if you choose to enter!
