Incorrect; cheap cider is cheap and chavy, just like cheap wine and cheap lager is. Good quality cider is something to be cherished and has alot of love gone into it. Being from Herefordshire, one of the top cider-making counties along with the likes of Somerset, it's easy to find many varieties of cider made with love and attention from apple enthusiasts. And pear-cider, or Perry, is also very refreshing this time of year. Though i do think perry is a little girly!
Can't you keep all these youtube videos to one post? As individual threads they die off after a day because they only appeal to a handfull of people at a time.

I drink. Some cider's nice, and I'd love to be there when someone tells ye olde middle classes of the Cotswolds that their drink is 'chavvy'. Mainly I'm an absinthe man, vodka, rum, whisky, and I'm partial to the odd cocktail, because they taste nice and anyone that thinks your choice of drink reflects your masculinity needs a lobotomy.
Having said that, drinking cocktails at a bar seems to increase your chances of being hit on by men tenfold.
It'll all blow over.

I'm too a cider drinker but I guess that what happens when you come from the west country.
I hardly drink to be honest, usually at parties (18ths/Weddings) I'll have a few but after getting seriously stupidly drunk on night I don't tend to touch the stuff. I'm perfectly happy in drinking cups of hot steaming tea. (Or Iced Tea in this weather.)
But yeah if I do drink, a nice bottle of cider, proper cider. My friend and I tend to buy this nice medium priced cider called Westons if we fancy a drink. Very very nice. Or if I have any left, home-made cider from Glastonbury, (well actually it's in Pilton) that my uncle makes. He's an alpaca farmer....
Westons - love it, it's in my fridge right now.... no wait i've opened it! "Henry Weston's Special Reserve Cider, Vintage 2008"... mmmmm!
And Kopparberg, that's the pear cider i drink the most these days in wetherspoons pups, on match days that is (don't go in there otherwise, not many girls to look at! lol)
My favourite is Much Marcle's finest, Stowford Press. Anyone tried that? I recommend!

I'm a huge cider lover. Never knew it came in cans though. I usually buy it in cartons during the fall. But the only cure I've had it for would constipation (No potty joke, hey it's the apples man) I love cider. My only question, is this normal cider or hard cider?

Actually cider has the total opposite effect, I can't stop if I drink to much cider...
Real men drink real ale. Specifically anything from Samuel Smith's pubs costing less than £1.50 a pint. Old Brewery and Sovereign are the dog's (although I am partial to an Alpine lager every now and then).
But, alas, I will drink almost any alcoholic drink regardless of taste, strength or 'manliness', (as I have no standards and no concept of my own levels of drunkenness), apart from the Cinnamon flavour Aftershock due to some... regrettable, shall we say... events on a birthday of mine.
Saying all this makes me want a beer. Fuck it, I'm off to the shop.
good deal and no i dont remember a bloody thing but a lot of people stopped talking to me shortly afterwards (never got back in contact with me since)... 2 litres of CHEAP vodka is very not for the win
edit: oh lordy i just used the phrase "for the win" in contextish
Love the way a thread about cider changes to English lessons, good work Mr. Boothman!
I remember when i first started going out and being a huge vodka lover, then one evening before a night out we went over to a pal's house and played on his PS1. We were playing each other on Fifa and Mortal Kombat 4 and the loser had to down a large measure of this cheapo Safeway (yep, that long ago!) vodka. I was on a good winning streak and hadn't had a drink for (what seemed like) ages, so grabbed the bottle and started drinking huge mouth-fulls from it. Then we went out to go clubbing. Then when we got outside to walk into town it all hit me; the fresh air, the vodka, all of a sudden i was mega-hammered.
So much so i don't remember actually getting into town - apparently by then i was being propped-up by 2 of the lads, and they refused me entry into the club (obviously!), then a taxi refused to take me so they walked me back to one of the lad's house to sleep it off. Next thing i remember is waking up the next morning after kipping on Phil's brother's bed (apparently i'd been sick on his floor too) and hearing that i'd caused a massive arguement between Phil and his mum coz he wanted to leave me there whilst they went out and she thought i was gonna die so didn't want to be lumbered with my carcass!

The most drunk I ever got, I must of been about...mmm just turn 17. Yup. My friend LouLou she turned 18 but no one could go out on 'er birthday because we was all to young. Anyway she bought loads of booze from Tesco and we all decided to drink in this park that looks really nice. Well I say park, it's more of a grassy field just outside my house. Anyway we had a few (Mickey Finn shots) and then Mikey and I decided to play Spin and Drink Jagermeister. A whole bottle. Each. We was ok until we finished it off and decided to go onto this Black Vodka stuff. I tell you now, I never been so drunk in my life. All I remember after drinking Black Vodka (not all the bottle about half) was acting like Sonic the Hedgehog and then trying to commit suicide because Mikey told me that I wasn't Sonic the Hedgehog.
Luckly I was able to keep it all in, but my god didn't I have a hangover the next day. From that day forward I never ever drink to the pont of being totally wasted. (Well maybe on my 18th I did a tad but I was allowed.)
Apprently also I tried talking to another drunk lass and we started ranting about fish, but I really can't remember doing that. Not sure if my friends were making that up...sounds like me though.
Usually I just drink water through the night and regardless of how much I drink, I feel fine the next day.
But uh .. I forgot to do that last night. Not good. Rough guts.
After a school friend died when I was 15, me and a friend went out and got pretty drunk. Never got past the tipsy stage since. But considering I only have a glass of champagne at New Years it easily goes to my head, heh. I'm a cheap date.
I've often wondered what American cider tastes like... find out and let me know!
I remember another time i was drunk, and i got a taxi home (living 3-4 miles out of town in a village). I asked the driver to drop me off about 1/2 a mile from home along a main road coz i felt sick, so he did and after he turned round and left i began puking up in a gateway to a field, then i fell on my ass, then to my back and i was so wasted i fell asleep. Next thing i know it's an hour later and i've been asleep in the wet, dew covered grass on a cold night, but the sleep must have done me good coz i was able to stand up and make the rest of the way home!
Dr. James, american cider taste like kinda like extremely sour apple juice. It's not really sour, it's just got a lot more twang than apple juice. Hooch Cider, Whiskey mixture, I always thought almost mixed together in a cinnamon like flavor. Never had full blown hard cider mixture with plain ol' beer though...
I live in US like Peblo so alcohol is illegal until your 21 for me too. I've rarely touched alcohol, not really my thing, occasionally when I'm at a mud run I might drink a beer just to be social. I think the main novelty for the US that makes it so good, is that we're not supposed to touch till we're 21, so that adds a lot to it... I've still never had a real reason, so I usually steer clear.
It's strange because drinking just seems to coincide with becoming a legal adult in Australia at 18 and getting your drivers licence at 17. If we weren't legally adult until 21 it would send the kids crazy here. Common to find 14 year olds drinking, sometimes even 12-13 year olds (just entering high school). Not that it's a good thing, it's really a terrible thing. Not that I know any statistics on the matter, but I guess then younger people are dumb enough to drink and drive when they get their provisional licence at 17/18. You can start learning to drive at 15, though it's illegal to drive without L plates and a fully licenced driver in the passenger seat.
Cider and American-style apple cider are two different things. You guys probably know it as soft cider in the UK. I'm pretty sure Wiiman is talking about apple cider, and that's the only type I've tried. Only alcohol I've had is a couple of swigs of wine. Not to my fancy.

On the original topic of ciders, Brothers cider is awesome. Although the toffee-apple flavour gets a bit sickly after a while, the lemon stuff is amazing.
There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't.
At least I'm not one of those foolish teens that think getting drunk is cool every single chance they get, and that anyone that doesn't is "unpopular".

I have a friend like that. She'll come to any party (even if she doesnt know the person who's throwing the bash) just to get "off her face". Annoys the crap out of me cause it's usually us that has to look after her when she can't get up. I seriously swear one of these days I'm just gunna leave her in the puddle.

"Soft cider" could that be our version of White Lightning that cheap Onion Cider.
You should try some if you're ever in the US around autumn! With some salted baked pumpkin seeds!
EDIT: Accidentally capitalized autumn. >_>
That soft cider stuff is something i've never heard of - without sounding like a div i would say it isn't even cider, in my book (though i am just being regionalistic, if that is even a word!) - also, that Thatchers cider on the cider wiki page looks like something i drank in Torquay once - bloody 'orrible! But you just had to try it!
I like it. Don't have it very often but it's a nice change when you're getting tired of coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. It's really spicy and sweet. The hot kind's the best, I think.
Difference between 15 year olds and people over 20 getting drunk all the time? One just is the most moronic thing you can do. The other one at least they're actually legal to be drinking. But when kids my age drink to excess and think its cool and anyone that doesn't do it is unpopular then it gets a little out of hand.
So because it's legal that makes it not moronic? That's not logical. I can see that older people might be more responsible, but since we're talking about getting drunk in the first place that's moot. What's the difference between 15 year-olds and 20 year-olds egging their buddies into getting drunk? They've both reached a certain amount of maturity.
No face saving necessary, I understand what you were getting at. Even if I didn't, there'd be no need to feel criticized. It is never my intent to belittle forum members.

Where do you go out usually? Tenbury being as sleepy as it is, i usually have to travel for a decent night out (with clubbing, etc) to cities nearby like Hereford or Worcester. Maybe even Birmingham or Cheltenham.
I'm on the doorstep of Bristol, so unless I'm in London I can be found on the Waterfront, or the small, upmarket bars with a dancefloor but also quiet seating areas. Bristol's just the right size for nightlife; always plenty of places to go with a staggering amount of variety, but you'll still bump into a few friendly faces. It's a big hub for media and the arts, too, so lots of discoveries to be made in terms of people and venues.
A Bristol, great city! Got a mate at work from there and he swears by it so it must be good for the nightlife. Never been out there myself though i will get round to it one day. Spent alot of time at Cribbs Causeway shopping and flew out to Poland on my mate's stag weekend from Bristol airport. And being a Hereford United supporter, we played (and lost badly) to Rovers last season.... though i missed the game
Way-hey, a Rochdale fan! Went there a few seasons back (though i had to work really hard to remember what the ground looks like since away days for me are always a drunken blur, and my memory ain't the best anyways!) and i'm sure i'll be up there again this season since it's easy to get to via train. And you're right, they've closed the Blackfriars end at Edgar Street on H&S grounds - apparently it's all subsiding and has been condemned. I think we only just clear the official minimun league capacity now
If you come down this season, you'll be forced to stand in the lower tier of the Len Weston stand, or whatever it'll be called this season.... might still be the Cargill stand actually.

Hereford's quite far, and, having gone there before, I don't think I'll be going this year. I prefer to pick and choose my away games so I get to see new grounds (I want to go to Crewe this year, maybe Northampton as well as all the usual local ones).
@ Boothman: Done Crewe (as it's close by train) and Northampton (our last away game last season, lost 2-1)
@ Mkingy: Digbeth - good street, it even has a custard factory! There's 3 pubs on there isn't there? The Adam & Eve, The Anchor and the white Swan isn't it?
