Hello
I'm working on a game. It's shaping up nicely but there is one thing thats bothering me. The file size used to be around 2-3 MB, until i added some music which made the file 10 times bigger. The music is an essential part of the game, and it's really a pain in the ass to save, build application and send it to friends for beta testing. And ofcourse, nobodoy likes to download if it will take minutes.
I've tried to change the music files from MP3 to OGG, WAV and so on, but none of them seems to decrease the file size. Anybody who got some tips to lower the size?
Thank you
Don't use Wav, and because it's native to MMF2 I'd go for OGG. But you won't really see much of a size reduction unless you lower the quality.
But don't worry about big games. I'm on a dog poor connection until later this year but I'll happily download a big game. Especially if the music is worth it.
Well you could always recreate the music in the mod format. It's the best for size, and it can retain the same quality as the original music if you wrote it in a tracker. If the specific music that you're using doesn't matter you could always check out modarchive.org which has plenty of music to download.
Unless you replaced the old files in the data elements dialog, it's probably keeping both the OGG versions and the old versions. I cut many migs and megs off splotches when I converted to OGG with audacity.
Also I'm with the good doctor James. I'm perfectly willing to download bigger files if the game is good. Makes it seem meaty and full of content.

You can do two things:
1) Don't worry about it. A few minutes to download a game is nothing these days.
2) Send the exe file to your friends and tell them to put it in the same folder as the music files (link to them as external files from the game)
Thanks everyone for the replies!
I simply lowered the quality of the OGG files, so now the game size is half of what it used to be(!). You also barely hear any difference.
Edit: Uhm, there seems to be a new problem.
I've replaced all the old, big sized songs with the new, smaller ones. But when i build the application it still got the big file size. The old song aren't being used at all, but the game seems to have stored them in some way. Any one knows how to fully delete them from the game?
I just got blue screen, which made my computer restard. God I hate blue screens... But... Now the game has the file size it's supposed to have.
Perhaps you have to restart your computer to make it work.
