Hi folks.

I am looking for some simple video editing software that doesn't suck. Right now I am using Adobe Premiere which is not simple and sucks. It totally butchered my Fishhead 4 video, probably because it doesn't like 320x240 games. The actual screen capture was pretty crisp but I don't want to show the entire capture as it shows all the bugs.

So, what are you folks using?

I use either Camtasia Studio 4 or Camstudio.

Ive never really experimented with different Codecs when recording in realtime, I just use the default settings. But of course uncompressed video is a bit useless if you're uploading a trailer or teaser. So I either use Windows movie maker for a super high resolution WMV or Total video converter to make a nice DivX, Xvid or Mp4 video.

Uploading to Youtube often destroys the quality of my videos no matter how good they were at the start.

I sometimes piece together Camstudio recorded vids in Quicktime, but I normally use Final Cut.

Windows Movie Maker. Seriously, it's more than all you need for basic editing and good enough for Youtube uploads.

If you're making a basic trailer with pre-recorded clips and you're some background music without adding any real special text effects and visuals than Windows Movie Maker is the best way to go if you're having trouble with Adobe Premiere.

I use Final Cut Pro myself. I've been video editing for 6 years and it's definitely the best. Had a try on Avid the other day at a post-production house I'm a runner at and that is pretty complex to get used to.

I concur with Windows Movie Maker. I must try Final Cut for some more complicated effects. WMM is nice for simple editing, but it doesn't support things like multiple videos at once (At least I don't think) or built-in support for effects like screen shaking etc.

Windows Movie Maker sucks (in XP at least) for two reasons:

1.) It doesn't let you export video files at custom resolution, and the highest it supports is 720x576, whereas my digital camera records movies at 1280x720.

2.) It's a lot of hassle even getting it to work with quicktime movies, which is what most cameras produce.

I use Nero Vision (part of the Nero 7 suite), but that's not ideal either.

I have to admit for YouTube videos i have found Windows Movie Maker to be plenty, though i also use Sony's Vegas too, which is very funky!
