I think it's a "thank you for being nice to everyone outside America, unlike the other #*@(# presidents who did not want to acknowledge us" prize. Who knows, maybe one day Obama will switch America to the metric system

Nominations for this ended Feb 1st. So he was in office less than a month. Farce much?
But at least in that month he didn't declare war on anyone and (IIRC) announced plans to promote nuclear disarmament. Still should have politely declined it and told them to come back in a couple of years.
I'm an American, and even I think we should be using the metric system. This inches, feet, yards, miles, etc bullshit is just that... bullshit. Nothing but pointless memorization.

The metric system makes so much more sense, but honestly I could care less if we switched or not. If given the option to just decide that the next generation would use it, then I would in a heartbeat, but since generations aren't clean cut one's-end-is-another's-start, I think a switch would be a bigger headache than it's worth. It's amazing how much you think in feet. It's a more usable size than a meter, and 0.3 meters is unwieldy.
One thing's for sure, the English system units are imaginatively named! We could probably just slap those names on the metric system.
america DOES use the metric system -_-. when i was in highschool and college thats all we did. the only time i ever even use (whatever our system is even called, see i dont even know) is when im measuring something. because for some reason if its not scientific we dont use the metric system cause american business are retards.
I think the only reason America still teaches children about the English system in elementary school is for backwards compatibility. You know, the same reason mmf2 still uses the same built-in platform movement engine since knp.
We still go on and create custom platform movements though.. er, I mean use the metric system.

Heh, nuclear weapons actually does more for peace than any other invention in the world. Nuclear weapons ended WW2, it kept the Cold War countries from directly attacking each other. Getting rid of nuclear weapons is pretty much an economic move, not one for peace.
Obama did try to illegalize torture, and he's been a lot more diplomatic in the Middle East. Personally, I'd rather the Nobel committee wait a few years to see whether his moves were just short-term ones that cause long term problems. The only reason people used torture at all was for security. I think Obama's trying to change too many things at once, either all that would have a collectively good effect and change the world USA or it'll have some unexpected effect and make everything worse.
The only question now is will he go down is history as a "Great Person" or the right person who happened to be in power at the right time?
This is why I don't take the Nobel prize seriously. Inventions are all about "standing on the shoulder of giants". It takes a lot of research in basic parts, and someone just walks in, puts the parts together, and comes up with an invention. In a sense, all the Nobel prizes, not just the peace one, is about being in the right place at the right time.

Look at this this way - he made the world's biggest military deeper in debt, which probably has to count for something, lol. No prize for economics, though. Then again, I heard George W. Bush also got nominated for the peace prize too.
