I personally liked xp better, but I switched to vista because people were having compatibility problems with my applications due to the fact that vista has a little different setup than xp.
Really? I like Vista better than XP. It's really imperative that you have a good setup though, because I hated it before I stuck 3GBs of RAM in my laptop. And also started using hibernation. I would probably still hate Vista if I had to wait for it to fully load every time I turned on the compy.
Anyway, I think the point of this thread was to discuss 7, not have yet another Vista sucks campaign.

Vista isn't BETTER than XP, and vice versa. Again, don't even start. I can tell just by the tone of the post that you're prepared for an Anti-Vista rant.

Bingo. A bunch of my friends and family like Vista, back on XP they used to rely on a plethora of external apps for photos and stuff. But for someone like me, who only uses Windows for games and MMF I prefer the barebones setup that XP offers.
youre right. neither is "better". there is a lot i liked about vista. there is also a lot about it that, as a developer, disgusts me. and that outweighed anyhthing i liked about it. xp, like 98 before it, is the golden child that most will cling to until it loses all support by microsoft.
im not going to rant, and im not ANTI vista. i really dont care what os you use, just dont tell me its better than xp. its not. ive used it. ive developed for/on it. its not as good.
i shall forever stand behind the quote "everything microsoft touches becomes hopelessly complicated".
I think Win7 merges the good of Vista and XP and shaves out the bad on both. I even came across an article which stated some people have noticed as much as a 30% increase in battery life over Windows XP using Windows 7. Strange when you think about aero, maybe they had it shut off (most likely), but it only goes to support the idea that Windows 7 might very well be the reason for XP users to finally make the OS leap.
It's understandable if it takes a while though, we suffered the same problem with Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
Um, why would you do that? Paint is just fine. Do you not like ribbons? It isn't like they're bad or anything. You'll get to format text with multiple colors now. I'm pretty sure anyway that they're made not to work that way. Which is why I have to record sounds into WMA as opposed to WAV with 7's sound recorder.
