-You may submit only one redone game, but you must also submit the original game. If not, your game is disqualified.
-You cannot keep any pre-fab graphics. All must be replaced or deleted.
-You may alter the gameplay.
-You may change the sounds and music.
-You may moderately change the storyline.
-You may redo original graphics.
-You may change the plotline (If available).
Scoring:
Just like NGC1, scoring will be determined by how much each catergory has been altered, for better or for worse, since the remake.
Time limit: you have until 3/20/10 to complete the redo. The compo starts on November 21, but you can start the redo before that date. There is no time limit to sign up this time. You may submit any entries you have anytime before the deadline.
Hmm one thing I try to do in my recent games is to make enemies actually have to attack the player to hurt him/her. Having everything being deadly to the touch just doesn't make sense to me. However that's how it works in Mr Stump's dentures. So I don't know if I should just keep that or not.
Hmm, I suppose that's where you decide if you are going to alter that gameplay element for better or for worse. Think about whether you can really improve on that game by doing so, or are you just changing it because you don't like it?
If anyone has any suggestions for a game for me to remake, let me know. I've been trying to find something to do. The only games I've finished just came out last month so remaking them seems like it wouldn't work.
Can we re-make the re-make we did in the last one?
I improved the graphics of Jambuster, and fixed a lot of bugs, but at the same time made it LESS fun to play . I fancy having a proper go at re-doing it this time around .
Hmm, given my nonexistent progress on my re-re-make (which would have required me to learn new skills and engines just to even start it ), are we allowed to re-make other people's games that are already on the DC?
Thanks! I was thinking of redoing Buzz the squirrel, but neither of the download links work... Or for any other of your games, for that matter.
Do you have a suggestion?

I might seriously consider entering this competition, although I'm (supposed to be) pretty busy at the moment.
I'm thinking of remaking "Plasma Warrior" ( http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=6755 )
It's a great game already, but it has very retro graphics & gameplay, plus it's very short - leaving lot's of scope for improvement
Also, it wouldn't require a huge amount of coding - just a solid platform engine is all it needs really.
I just played through it again, taking screenshots, and stitching them all together to make a complete map...
...and then I looked on the download page, and saw that someone else had already done the same thing, and I could have saved myself half an hour
There is a difference between a plotline and a storyline, even though they sound pretty much like the same thing.
A storyline is basically the events that happen within a novel, game, movie, etc. (e.g: Bob found a ball, bob kicked the ball, it exploded, and bob cried and laughed at the same time before developing a severe case of narcolepsy.)
The plotline is basically the meaning or underlay to a novel, game, movie, etc. (e.g: Bob is an 8 year old kid from somewhere in Indiana, and his mission is to find a ball.)
Plot and Story can be considered the same thing in one sense (especially if you append a "line" on the end of both), but if you aren't going to think of them as one, then I think you've got them switched there. Or at least not delineated.
Plot is the way the story progresses, the key happenings. (Bob from Indiana on a mission to find a ball. Meets Fred, makes friends, battle the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz) While a story is the plot skeleton with some meat put on--the point of that plot, what you're trying to say, the final result. (Bob lived a beautiful town in suburban Indiana whose residents learn that there's more to life than work by encountering the hijinx of Bob and Fred.) You can think of the story as the general stuff and the plot as the specific stuff.
You will not likely need to distinguish between them when making an MMF2 game.
If that's how you see it, that's fine. I can't say who's right, and I certainly don't want to cause a dispute so I'll leave it there. Eithor or, take your pick.
We're aren't anywhere near a dispute. I think the terms are so close that you could interpret them either way anyway. In any case, it's not too much of a concern for this competition, I think.
Near or not, I didn't want to get too close. I probably should have said argument instead. But I digress, it's nothing huge. Carry on with la' game redoness!
Crap, MMF just decided to replace the cloud sprites with the character sprites and also make the game unplayable while it was at it. Luckily I backed the stuff up, but I still ended up losing the entire cutscene and a good chunk of the first level as well.

Just to show the kind of visual style I'm going for with my "Plasma Warrior" remake:
I'm not spending long on any of it, or I know I'll never finish.
I'm also contemplating some kind of lighting system to make it a bit more atmospheric (and hide the general crappiness).
As far as gameplay goes, I'm basically keeping it the same, but I want to add a few extra areas, and lose the triangle-jumping - definitely don't want to be too ambitious though.
Hey, is it allowed if I ask someone to do graphics for me? Thinking of remaking Chaos Wave, with a different theme (like medieval guys), but most likely won't do it this year, coz I'm busy. I didn't do all the graphics for the original anyway

Damn this challenge... I have almost NO free time at all, and the free time I have should go into SlateGod (JabClick 2). But I guess im still going to remake either Bird or another old game of mine...
Edit: I've got it! I'm going to remake Robot Gunner, cuz everyone was very dissappointed in me when I quit that project
I took a look at the mfa yesterday and realised that it started to have some strange bugs that put me off continuing. Even though the engine is basically copied from Lil' pirate the exits wouldn't work! and various objects just decided to vanish, its been so long since I touched it I have no idea what the problem even is.
TDC points mean little to me anyway. But I can put together a demo not a submission, if you like.
Absolutely, demos welcome! And hey, NGC3 will be quite a long time away (Just to give other compos a chance), but possibly you could finish the remake in time for THAT instead. Whatever works for you man.
You'll give Hayo ideas for new Fishhead characters. N head the masturbating stickman.
@Werewoof, I stopped working on it and don't want to finish it. Actually I don't even feel like making it demo ready, I just feel like I should at least give you something now i said i'd enter.
However there's no title screen, the levels aren't connected, stuff isn't implemented properlym my music is work in progress. Oh and there are level design breaking bugs.
I dunno maybe i could just upload the MFA and files here or something.
Lol Boothman, please don't. I have decent morals. o_O
@AndyUK: Don't worry 'bout it, mate. It's alright if you don't want to finish or upload something. It's too bad you didn't finish the remake, but I'm not ashamed because you failed to present something despite entering. And hey, I'll be honest and say that I wouldn't want to finish a game with a bunch of strains either. Bunch of bugs, unconnected levels... ouch.
Aww, can you please extend deadline? I have a field trip for tomorrow and Friday and I don't think i can finish. maybe just 1 week or a few days? You could dock me off 10 points. And maybe someone else could finish too...
Awesomeness is Watermelon.
