A friend mentioned this on MSN earlier. And to think, I was considering THREE DS instead of DS in 3d so I hopped over to Kotaku
I don't know what to think about it really. They should rather release a NON shitty version of the WII as in: develop the motion sensitivity a bit further and give as new hard ware that produces at least some not SO crappy graphics as in
haha game cube with motion control in a white box- it was funny when it came out but come on guys
also 3d handheld- enjoy that puke fest while riding the bus and looking at some 3d. i believe this will be a big failure like the virtual boy but hey lets see. MAYBE the graphics will improve and won't be just portable N64 on two screens and OMFG biggest improvement portable N64 on two screens UP SCALED to cash in once again. I honestly don't want to know how many kids there are with all versions of the DS that ever came out.
On the other hand I've to admit they seem to be at least improving their device not like Sony with their PSP that hasn't changed much over all the version.
Nintendo hasn't revealed any specifics yet. Except that it won't require 3D glasses.
I don't know why people are surprised about them bringing out yet another gameboy/DS, they've always released a new model every couple of years. Hopefully because it's a "game machine to succeed “Nintendo DS series”" it will be a good hardware difference like between the Advance and DS, or between the N64 and gamecube - but not like the difference between the gamecube and wii .
Well, the difference between DS and DSi is comparable to the difference between GameCube and Wii, hence why people are surprised/pissed off at the announcement of the 3DS.

Just look at the difference between the dozens of gameboys. It's nothing new for Nintendo to update their handheld hardware. But since Nintendo seem to want the 3DS to be a new generation of gameboy/DS, I'm hoping the change is as dramatic from something like N64 to Gamecube, or Gameboy colour to advance. And not just a new a gimmick, like the Wii was to the Gamecube.
DSi is definitely a minor revision. It has exclusive software, but think of it as something that requires a peripheral (the cameras). Would you call the balance board a new platform because certain games require it?

No but you don't have to buy a new Wii to use a Wii Fit.

I'm saying think of the DSi as the same system with a peripheral included. It would be like buying a wii with the balance board bundled in. Doesn't make the Wii a different console.
Different-sized screens? Strange. The idea that only one screen is 3D kind of makes sense, since I'm sure putting a hand and stylus in front of the screen ruins the effect.
I don't get what's with this wave of 3D software out there. 3D doesn't ever add anything necessary to the experience and it's completely pointless. Our eyes work in ways using things like perspective, positioning, and size to give us a sense of 3D on a 2D plane. That and 3D without glasses require tricks that screw around with your eyes and cause damage to you.
A lot of unnecessary things are added in video games.
What I like about the 3DS is that it will allow you to play 3d games without buying a new TV. Might actually buy one if they manage to put out a few decent enough games on it.
