Random Thought: The top banner of the arcade features Pac Man in the background, and yet we don't have a proper Pac Man clone. Definitely an idea, in case someone's looking for something else to make.

Dear Cecil, please look up 2 posts, then read the msg below, you know, only if you have the time.

The latest news is that club is currently rebuilding his pc but is away for the long easter break from home. Things should pick up speed later this week. We got some cool submissions in the pipeline for the compo.

dear rikus, that has nothing to do with my comment.

enabling daily credits should not be exclusive to clubsoft.

its been what? 2 - 3 weeks since the arcade opened? i had numerous first place, second place, third place, and other top scores, that have been beaten since the arcade opened that i never got daily credits for because no one ever turned on daily credits.

i wasnt bothered when i was told that it wouldnt be turned on for a few days to allow for the games to fill with scores, but 2-3 weeks later its still not on? there is NO excuse for that. broken pc or not, turning on a feature that is already implemented is NOT hard. find another computer or have someone ELSE turn it on.

You're loss of interest in the arcade means no loss to TDC. When Clubsoft gets his comp fixed, I'm sure he'll gladly scratch any scores you've made. Nobody else on the arcade is earning daily points, or for that matter (that I know of), complaining about it. With the exception of you. Furthermore, did Clubsoft HAVE to implement that feature BY A SPECIFIC DATE? Is he under contract? No. Further-furthermore, if it wasn't for Clubsoft (and Flava, of course)'s coding, TDC wouldn't exist. The arcade wouldn't exist. This post and your post wouldn't exist.

Bottom line: Just shut up and stop whining about something so damn miniscule. Good grief, it's like giving a beggar money then getting and earful for not giving them more. -_-

Nuff said. Ciao.

Well this sure did escalate to a point that I didn't expect...

The way I see it, if Cecil tires of the arcade because there are no daily credits, he has that right. You all have your right to disagree with him, but aren't we being a bit hostile? That goes for both sides, by the way. I get the idea that the database cannot be accessed from any and/or every computer Club goes to, and as far as I know none of us have access to the coding of the arcade. There is no admin backend just yet, so I certainly couldn't have activated it. However, seeing as games were uploaded after the two-three days it could well have been activated then.

I suppose I don't know why I made this post. Um, just everyone calm down a tad?

unless the database is ON his computer, i guarentee it can be accessed from any computer via a cpanel login or something similar. if it IS on his computer we wouldnt even be playing the arcade right now. so i assume it is the latter.

im not being hostile at all. and its a valid reason to be upset. the whole point of the arcade is to get top scores and get points for having them. the way i see it, i spent quite a bit of time when the arcade opened to get quite a few high scores, that i would have gotten about 1 weeks worth of daily credits for each. if im not going to get credits for them, then i have no reason to continue playing.

i also experienced numerous times where i would not receive credits for GETTING a highscore.

first impressions are everything, and this one put a sour taste in my mouth. thats just how i feel.

Mean smiley faces can throw intent out of proportion. I got more of an irritated vibe than a hostile one from Cecil, which is perfectly fine. The fact remains that we do not have access to the arcade coding. If we did, I doubt we would know how to turn it on. Flava might have access, but we don't know, we're not in control of that portion of the site! I don't know that the daily score system has even been finalized.

Exploding computers do tend to sidetrack your internet ventures. It would be very much appreciated if just a liiiittle more patience could be oozed out of your reserves. The daily points aren't Club's only arcade-related concern, let alone non-tdc things. We'll get there!

And by the way.

Can you stop telling people to shut up please? I know you like to try and impress the authority around here, but you'll find that in a couple of years time you'll look back and see what a prat you looked telling people to "shut up" on an internet forum.

You've only been around for about a year or two, and let's face it you haven't done much for the community yourself. I don't see what puts you in such a position to go around telling people to shut up?

I 'becha I could turn it on, not that I'm concerned with points or anything.

So is the arcade using mysql or is it communicating with the ISS(MS-SQL) database of the main site?

My favorite game on the arcade would have to be the mail run game, awesome graphics!

I doubt it; the only reason I said shut up is because I was standing up for the admins. Naturally for me it's the first word that comes to mind when I see someone quarreling with an admin. It's not like they don't have enough to put up with already. And I can't see how saying shut up counts as impressing the authorites at all.

Might want to work on making that not the first thing that comes to mind! Your concern for our well-being is noted and appreciated, but please limit upshut requests to the most dire of times. We are the iron-fistediest of admins in all of the internetz, after all, and we can tell people to shut up quite well enough without help! (sarcasm disclaimer)

And here we go, right back on topic!

Concerning to just the daily credits issue. There are some fine details that need to be discussed concerning this last time I remembered, there are a couple of reasons why it has not been turned on in the first place. So yes club can just flip a switch but there is a reason other then his computer issues this has not happened yet. Since myself and club are all over the place we have not touched base on msn about this yet but I am sure we will. Expect a couple of cool game related updates in the next couple of days. Until then group hug eh?

Regarding the points/credits system; perhaps credits should only be given for your best position within each game, so that a single person dominating one game will only receive points for their best position, rather than points for all their positions? Also, it seems to me that once you become good at a game, as in good enough to be 1st, it is really easy to inflate your points by intentionally beating your own 1st place by just a few points, and then doing that ad infinitum. Perhaps points should only be given for achieving a place if you didn't already hold it? Or maybe just reduce the number of points given if the position you beat was your own position..?

I don't want to sound like a broken record, and I think Arcade is great as it is, but I just want to highlight the importance of creating an environment which enables a steady flow of games to the site to keep things fresh.

Personally, I would love to see a situation where 50% of all content submitted to TDC would end up in the Arcade (yes, I know that vast majority disagrees with that). And 100% of that would be either Flash or Java, 0% Vitalize.

Then, when the quantity and quality is right, some search engine optimization, perhaps even investing some donation funds to search engine marketing (at least I would be interested in investing a certain sum for this type of activity, maybe CT as well with some "arrangements"?) in order to increase the visitor volumes considerably. Make it a casual gaming portal, with 95% of all gaming activity coming from people who have never even heard about "clicking", but also a site which simultaneously acts as a "show window" and distribution channel for clickers to get their games to the world easily through TDC's "submit game" feature - all in automatic fashion (of course consisting of quality assurance and moderation process before content goes live). Something what Clickteam's Madword tried to be but failed at.

Oh well, maybe I'm thinking too big here. But I do see a lot of new kind of potential there. This community is too much just developer focused, producing games for other developers to play. Look at yoyogames.com - that's already a little bit better "symbiosis" of developers and gamers, and that shows in the volumes of content consumption. This in turn incentives developers to make more stuff, which again leads to higher repeat visits, more active community, and so on. It's a snowball effect.
