My experience in trying to do this a few years ago with DVDs I had bought/rented was a giant pain in the arse and largely unsuccessful, but I'm hoping that the wondrous pace of technology has brought DVD ripping down to a one-click operation. Now I just have a few home DVDs I'd like to send to friends. Anyone have any recommendations on good software? //

Perhaps in an ideal future there will be one single freaking video format for all devices. I use Total Video Converter at the moment. Is that the choice of the professional, or is there a better one that I'm not-so-blissfully unaware of? //
