Eurovision is not, and never has been, about good music. I think once you understand that, you will enjoy it a lot more.
Also, remember that the entries do not reflect their countries' taste in music - I'm sure most Greeks realize their song is utter wank, in just the same way that most Brits would accept that we haven't had a good entry since... Gina G?
Having said that, it would be a crime if Jedward were to win - there are no words to describe how much I hate those fucking retards.
In sweden 2010 a purely amazing song and artist came in second place and so didn't get to represent sweden in the eurovision song contest that year. The song was Salem al Fakir's 'Keep on walking'(you should listen to it), and it was a real shame that it didn't win here in Sweden. Goes to show that there actually is very good music that could be seen in the eurovision song contest.
well the important part is that its in my home town. also greek was utter crap. damn i hate greek. to be honest i hate EVERYONE who won but finland.
turkey rocked and i like that red haired lady who sounded like as if she was singing a james bond theme.
I only saw a few of the entrants (watching something else on a different channel), but none of the songs I heard were good, with the exception of Azerbaijan's, which I thought was okay, relatively speaking. And they have a nice looking girl, as we've come to expect from them (Armenia usually do too - I haven't seen their entry yet).
The Turkish song was crap. There's one like that every year (usually from Scandinavia though) - kind of like a rock song, but after you've taken away everything that's good about rock music, in order to make it bland enough to be acceptable in Eurovision. Like if Kurt from Glee were to do Metallica.
Switzerland's song had some potential, but the girl couldn't sing for toffee.
The Irish one, which you may not have seen yet - well, if you thought Greece's song was bad, just wait til you hear this...
The British entrants, I almost feel bad for them. They used to be a really successful group here, and now they've sunken this low. And believe it or not, Simon Webbe is actually a pretty good singer too...
Blue stand a better chance than last year's UK entry. I pray something better than last year's winner wins this year. German girl trying to emulate Lily Allen-esque singing, and pronouncing it "larve" instead of love, then acted like a complete muppet when she won.
A close family friend recently got hold of front row tickets due to a cancellation, which was pretty lucky.

Still, nothing will ever beat Ukraine 2007.
Also, Sweden's entry is horrible.
fun fact: i agree with adam
luckily not by 100%. the Ukraine song is just epic and i still haven't forgotten about it. i dont see anything wrong with lena. i really liked her song and everything about her but so did everyone last year.
i just have to admit i think the semi finals were awful and only really really terrible bands won. seriously greece sucked so badly. i cant even believe it.
i think the finnish guy might have a good chance because he is doing the opposite of what people are doing. everyone is trying to go for a big show but him so i think thats a plus.
lena was fresh and a surprise last year but this year i rank her 6 or 7.
also i think portugal was trolling.
also i think there is something annoying about the french. note: for the contest they speak english AND french. why not english only?
its because the french are language nazis and hate english so they are like "oh sack re blue we dont want to hear english- merde. we only accept french" and those cocks get away with it. if that wasnt mean enough everyone is singing in english nowadays (pretty much everyone at least) but the french are like NO our artist(s) are allowed to sing in FRENCH ONLY. seriously what a fucking bunch of language fascists. it pisses me off
Alright, these are my picks to go through from the second semifinal:
UKR - super hot girl and neat sand artist
BEL - possibly too patriotic - not really in the spirit of Eurovision...
SLO - actually quite enjoyable
BUL - scaryu dwarf chick, but decent enough song
AUT - reminds me of Lucie Silvas
SWE - truly banal lyrics, but whatever...

Finland's song worked nicely in the first semi-final as it was sung in the middle of some too noisy, crappy, chaotic songs. So it stood out from that group of entries as a pleasant, simple, slow-tempo song. It was also the only song in the first semi-final to use the simple "man and a guitar" concept, so it differentiated well. That may not be the case in the final, though (haven't seen/hear all countries yet), and the starting place as the first country to present is far from being optimal, so it probably won't finish in the top 5 at least.
i like Finland's song. every song is so HYPER HYPER too much action while Finland is like: yeh enough of that shit guys. let's all be calm. i don't need any fancy effects.
also i DISGUST YOU, Sketchy? here have some FAN ART i did then.
i think they are lully because they are so mental.
also i think lena might get 11 or something.
did anyone see those weird rockers with those super pointy black hats? they are cool in my opinion. really liked them. in the end it will be each former commi country giving each other points again. eurovision is the only event where i think we should build up the wall again.
Nice picture. Shame about the subject matter, but very good drawing nonetheless.
I agree the Finnish song is good. I'm sure I've heard it before somewhere - maybe on a TV commercial or something.
That and the Slovenian entry (the unconventionally hot Christina Aguilera wannabe) are *way* ahead of all the rest, IMO.
If I was going to vote, it would be for Slovenia
(although Belarus's entry was awesome, but sadly didn't make it through to the final)
Jedward aren't mental, they're immature and rely on acting stupid because they can't sing. That's the only reason they became popular on the Xfactor in the first place. Moldova and Austria were my favourites, but as predicted it turned into a complete load of political bullcrap again. The voting system really needs to be changed. Azerbaijan was one of the only songs my family couldn't even remember this year.

well
well
well
lets see where I will agree with you. personally I enjoyed Moldova a lot and thought they were awesome (glad they made it to the finals) but didn't think they would have a big chance looking at what Europe's "taste" (TASTE OLOLOLOLOL get this?) is like.
greece was just awful. i didn't even care who was gonna win- seriously i didn't have a favourite. i just cared that TWO artists lose big time: greece and azerbaijan who I couldn't stand at all.
I went furious when I saw Greece was getting all those points. HELL even GERMANY gave Greece 8 points and I was like "okay that's it. gonna move to the netherlands. only country i agree with"
fun fact: the german committee who makes 50% of the votes and the other 50% are from phone votings did NOT vote for greece so god knows why they got 8 points from germany.
i also liked the fact that everyone but Beligum and France spoke English. Those language fascists. its hilarious.
the lady from poland was ANNOYING as hell.
the opening with lena's satellite was actually better than the original song. i think the show was very well done, good work düsseldorf and no way Azerbaijan is gonna beat such a show.
I'm pretty sure Jedward aren't "acting" stupid. Still, at least they didn't win.
I thought Azerbaijan's entry was actually okay, if rather dull. It had mainstream appeal (unlike Moldova for example), without being too similar to any of the other entries - whereas the solo-female-balladist vote would have been split between AUT, SLN, UKR, etc. The Ukrainian entry was probably the only one to place in the top 10 that I thought was better.
Like you said, definitely a lot of political/geographical voting going on, as always - but then the UK did give maximum points to Ireland (in spite of them being by far the worst entry in the entire competition), so we can't really complain. We're just disadvantaged by not getting along with most of our nearest neighbours...
I'm surprised how badly Slovenia did in the end, considering they had a good song, pretty girl, and good geographical location (should get votes from all the Balkan countries).
Ukrainian was the sand picture lady wasn't it? i think no one fucking listened to the music. i think it was just background music to the art
Seriously Jedward are so hyper and just jumping around all the time like they were on speed or something. Those guys just crack me up so badly and I actually find the song to be CATCHY.
stooooooooooooooop haaaaaaatin on jeeeeeedwaaaard :C :C :C
Really disappoiting to see that Finland only took 21st place. X| It's also a little strange that Switzerland was at the bottom. The singer wasn't that great, but I thought the instrumentation was quite nice on that one.
Moldova was great this year too, but they only got 12th. Also disappoiting.

today i just realized that your name is AUSTRIAN not AUSTRALIAN
heißt das, dass du mich verstehst?
oh and YEH i was really for finland because everyone was like OH LOOK WE HAVE HOT CHICKS (damn a few chicks were really super hot. i like the Belarus one the most) and we have FIREWORKS and explosions and a lot of fancy effects while he was just like: here i wrote this song myself and you are gonna listen to it.
HE DID IT ALL BY MYSELF and it was really happy go lucky with a nice message and stuff. i liked it and i feel sorry for him /blame those commis.
5am i forgot what i was gonna say so whatever night
The winner was quite expected. Definitely better than Italy or Sweden who finished 2nd and 3rd.
Finland plunged all the way down to the place #21.
It's interesting to compare semi-final results and the correlation between those and the final results:
Greece #1 in semi-final --> #7 in the final
Azerbaijan #2 in semi-final --> #1 in the final
Sweden #1 in semi-final --> #3 in the final
Denmark #2 in semi-final --> #5 in the final
Slovenia #3 in semi-final --> #13 in the final
So all of these top-3 semi-final songs (there were two semi-finals) finished quite high in the final as well...but then...what happened to Finland:
Finland #3 in semi-final --> #21 in the final !
I think if the starting order would've been different, i.e. Finland performing in the middle of the pack instead of as the very first country, it might have finished at least in the top 15, maybe even top 10. It won some media award anyway, so somebody actually liked the song.
"The winner was quite expected. Definitely better than Italy or Sweden who finished 2nd and 3rd"
What? Azerbaijan's song was one of the most boring and forgettable in the entire contest. There were songs in the semi finals that didn't get through that were better.
Austria and Moldova were my favourites and they came no where near the top. Some Eastern European countries are so far behind its ridiculous, and it's insulting that crap like Sweden and Italy came so near the top.
Also, why are so many of the European presenters the same? Every year they act the same, have the same little comedy routines and act a little crazy trying to be entertaining.
I think the voting should change to purely a panel of judges, two from each country and they can't vote for their own. Then if it's blatantly political like most years we know who to blame.
I really can not be bothered with the eurovision song contest. I think it should be banned along with Cliff Richards and numerous other things, for the good of mankind
you should note that the results in the SEMI FINALS were in random order so greece being at number 1 didn't mean anything at all.
also "The winner was quite expected." is something I totally disagree with. Seriously I couldn't disagree with anything more than this. There were a bunch of interesting and good artist so Arzarbyjan was something you seriously saw coming...seriously? pppf
also did i already say the song was shit?
-----
what adam said :
"What? Azerbaijan's song was one of the most boring and forgettable in the entire contest. There were songs in the semi finals that didn't get through that were better. "
seriously i dont even remember ARSABUYYARN's song anymore. first of all it sounded like a rip off of some popular song i dont even remember which is also like "we are running" something. i dont remember it but it sucks too. so it sounds like some rip off and then you get those AAAAOOO AAAAOOO in the background- fuck the song is annoying, boring and just plain shit.
bunch of bands in the semis that were better that got kicked out.
and i think A LOT of people were surprised they won. i am a bit sick of people like: OH I SAW THAT COMING AFTER the show. like if you SEE shit coming say it BEFORE everyone knows so we can actually believe you but claiming shit after it already happened...pppft
Actually, MJK is right - the winner was quite expected.
If you look at the betting odds, Azerbaijan were third favourites, behind France and Ireland.
And I personally said:
"I only saw a few of the entrants (watching something else on a different channel), but none of the songs I heard were good, with the exception of Azerbaijan's."
As for it not being memorable, there are only two songs I can still remember - Belarus (I love Belarus!) and Denmark (Come on boys, come on girls, something something craissy craissy world).
I remember the silly Moldovan hats, but the song was not memorable, except for being shit.

Seriously, get over yourself . You said Azerbaijan were good and you were right because they won? The competition is ridiculously political, it doesnt mean you have good taste... if anything it's completely the opposite Denmark's tune is actually stolen from another song and there has been controversy over it.
Moldova's entry was awesome. Strangely had a Cirque Du Soleil feel to it.
Oh, and Belarus.. another act with a woman who couldn't sing, much like Azerbaijan's.
You get over your self - I wasn't even talking to you.
My comments were directed at MasterM, who had said: "and i think A LOT of people were surprised they won. i am a bit sick of people like: OH I SAW THAT COMING AFTER the show. like if you SEE shit coming say it BEFORE everyone knows so we can actually believe you but claiming shit after it already happened...pppft"
I was just saying that I wasn't surprised Azerbaijan won, and backing it up by showing what I had written beforehand - not trying to boast about being right, or prove I have good taste.
And I never said Denmark's tune was good - I just said it was memorable. Moldova's entry was shit. Cirque du Soleil are also shit.
not aimed towards you sketchy. im just annoyed by all those farts on tv right now who knew they would win. in fact im annoyed by farts who always claim they saw it coming and knew it would happen AFTER it already happened. those guys are jerks but yeh you have made your point and i saw what you wrote there so yeh not aimed at you, seriously- no sarcasm hidden here.
but seriously I think the show was very good. let's forget that we dislike band x for a moment and just look at the show. i think düsseldorf did an awesome job and I don't see how Arseyairbuyyan could possibly beat that.
It was okay - definitely nothing special, though.
They very much kept to the usual format, with cheesy comperes, a big-screen backdrop, and a few pyrotechnics.
The interval act was poor - just some random German singer, instead of the big spectacle that we'd normally expect to see.
The highlight for me, was the little video intros for each country - the exaggerated depth-of-field effect that somehow made real towns look like little toy villages, was awesome.
No reason at all to think Azerbaijan won't put on as good a show, if not better. They're not one of those war-torn little countries that won't even exist in a year's time, and they're not crippled by debt like most of Europe (now that I think about it, that probably explains why Greece entered such a shit song - they can't afford to host the competition next year).
To be honest though, Eurovision hasn't been the same since Terry Wogan stopped doing the UK tv coverage (in protest at all the Eastern-European countries voting for each other).
i believe ive read it was the most expensive eurovision show they ever did and i think you could tell. the whole stage and everything was build very well, had a cool look and design and the shit that was going on on the big screens is nothing they had going on in the past years. i think the rocking remake of satellite was pretty kick ass too.
while people liked the interval act i have to agree on this one. the guy is a jerk and even tough he is german i cant understand A SINGLE word of what he says- no joke. i seriously don't understand this guy.
i liked the little videos of different german places but what bothered me is that like 80% was berlin. germany got more places than just berlin.
Azerbaijan got some uptight gay hating muslime regime. thank you very much.
"To be honest though, Eurovision hasn't been the same since Terry Wogan stopped doing the UK tv coverage" yeh thats what all people say. that might be the case. as a non brit i cant relate and i only know wogan from pictures so i wouldnt know whats so special about him. good he also dislikes the fact all the former commi countries are supporting each other but then you should note so does Scandinavia. so does everyone, really. STILL different countries win each year so it must work somehow.
Actually I have to agree with MasterM about the presentation, Germany did a very good job. The stage was pretty awesome and the opening rendition of Lena's Satalite was an excellent opening to the show. Better than the original version.
Oh, and Neil Young uses autotune more than CHER lololol
they way he used to rip the other countries was always funny as heck,
like watching the ppl on xFactor that think they can sing, get told they can sing by there friends, and then they go on xFactor, and they suck Ass.. lol
oh, and they are genuinly shocked that they suck...
lmao..

Agree 100% about Wogan - it's not the same since he left.
Same with all those other "talent" shows - I watch the auditions for the comedy value, and then stop watching after that (it gets me too worked up, listening to truly painfully bad singers, and then the judges raving about how good they were).
