It appeared like the old music thread was antiquated by now so I decided to post a new one.
This is Music Thread 2011! Talk about the music you've been listening too lately!
Try to focus on the music you've been listening to recently since this is the 2011 thread.
Oh and please, no haters on other people's music they play. Gator don't like Playerhaters
I've been listening to some southern rock as always(being the official redneck of TDC), but recently I fell back into the more country side of the genre. But hey, how can you go wrong with Copperhead Road?
Recently I saw Colt Ford in concert. I doubt any of you guys have ever listened to his stuff, but I've been a fan for a long time, and his new album 'Every Chance I Get' is absolutely fantastic! Colt Ford is a country-rap hybrid.
But of course, I will always respect the classics! This video is great for two reasons, besides being a good song 1. It features Freddie Mercury and his amazing stache 2. It has Duncan McCloud crossing swords with Freddie Mercury(and his amazing stache)
That's what I'm listening to, now what about you guys?

Epic song indeed. As for me
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
Phendreeke; I've never heard that band before but I do like the sound of them, particular the Russia's on Fire. The first one was good but the beginning made me pee my pants
W3R3W00F; Well you're taste are a little far out from mine Probably because I feel like music needs lyrics, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion and preferences

Glad you like it, their first four albums are their best, not really worth bothering with anything after Beauty and the Beast except Live in Budapest if live albums are your thing. There are a few good songs on their 2004 album Witchcraft but it's nowhere as consistent as their early albums.

Drums were my first instrument. I also had a nasty habit of speeding up the tempo I originally played in.
So yeah; the fast, rhythmic breakbeats of Drum and Bass is easy to relate to for me. Kind of disappointed the genre isn't as popular here as it is in the UK, though. :/
In contrast to the loud, bassy sound of (most) Drum and Bass tracks, I also like mellow, ambient songs.

If you like music with with really good bass and a fast pase, maybe I could suggest some of the new Beastie Boys. I don't know if you're able to stand rap or not, but this is some good stuff with nice bass and a decent tempo. But most of all...It's funky!
The older Beastie Boys is more of a rap and punk rock mix, witch I prefer, but both are quite good
My first instrument was the trombone and it didn't quite work out Now that I look back at it I'm like "Why did I want to learn trombone out of all the instruments? It's the lamest one!" Recently I've been trying to learn Banjo and it's not going too bad, but we'll see how that turns out for me...
I've been listening to Tegan and Sara a lot lately,
Kind of sad that they have to disable comments on most of their videos, mostly due to the fact that idiots like to make the fact that they're lesbians an issue. There are even some idiots who claim that they are in love with each other, which of course they use the brilliant argument "They're lesbians, and they're sisters... THINK ABOUT IT!". And if they were, like it'd be anyone else's business.

Why must they hate America?! On our independence day too
I bought the new Black Stone chery Album Recently, really good stuff! They have always claimed to be a modern day southern rock band, which I think is a little false. But this hard rock remix of Marshal Tucker Band's song definitely made them at least one step closer!
I would say a modern day southern rock band should be held to the standards of the classic bands because really the genre hasn't changed much through the years. I would say modern day southern rock would be closer to Jason Aldean or Brantley Gilbert.
Yeah, but, but, the Ralf Scheepers version from Heading for Tomorrow is obviously superior. Listen to how Kai sings "do you heeeeeeeeear whaaaat I say to you", it's just wrong!
Kai just don't sing that part the same way as Ralf, prefer the Kai Hansen version though, his voice is more fitting to the song. Kais voice is simply more orgasmic, Exhibit A:
Meh, folkmetal is good and all, but when you know swedish and listen to that song as well as other swedish metal songs, it becomes incredibly silly.
Now this is awesome folk metal, in my opinion.
I don't like sweden, and espceially not stockholm faggots, but i'd rather listen to their songs than finnish peoples puking vodka over the mic.
The best folk metal actually come from norway...
And island and färöy.
I'm normally not a heavy metal guy, though I do really enjoy some bands from time to time. But I've never been capable of standing what I consider "Screamo" music. I love a good voice and lyrics in my songs, but when they start to scream for the heck of it, I don't seem to notice the talent at all
But I did happen to hear one song from a band that I consider to be Heavy Metl Screamo. Yet they didn't scream in this song! But this guy has a great voice, so why does he have to scream in his other songs? Don't get it at all. Must be an acquired taste of music I guess. One that I do not currently possess.
Anyway, here's the song I was thinking of-
Not nuts on the music video which is common, but he words are quite good and it's got an acoustic guitar mixed in there which is cool.
I think you misread my post Phendrecke, I have nothing against metal, even if its not the genre I listen to the most, but I just have a troulbe enjoying songs that I consider to be in the "Screamo" subgenre.
I really love good metal when it's done right, but it's one of the genres like Southern Rock where there is a lot of debate over what is and what isn't metal. Mostly because we each have personal standards of the genre.
For Example-
Several people who listen to more country would almost classify this song as metal once it gets going. I listen to a fair amount of rock so I think of it just as rock.
This is where stuff gets just plain out confusing, having subgenres and mixed genres. It seems as it could go on forever! And it does...
Here's a mixed genre I've been getting a kick out of, punkgrass. What the heck?! Yeah it's a blue grass band with punk rock stage antics-
In my opinion there is just a little too many instruments at once, making the tune a little hard to pick out. But that Straight-Up-Bass Player is fing insane!

No I understood. Just wanted to show that there's a wide range of different vocal styles in metal.

I agree with you on that.

I doubt anyone will actually take time to listen to this song. But I found an old casette the other day with this on it and it has been stuck in my head for two weeks I realize it's not most people on here's style, but give it a shot, unless you don't want a song stuck in your head
Currently really into dubstep and drum & bass. My roots are in all electronic music, but I have a wide variety of genres I listen to. Love jazz, classical, punk, alternative, indie, among others.
