I have a firm memory of participating in this year's TDC Halloween compo. I recall images of engines and of horror... Happy as I am, I'm chugging on, making my gfx and tweaking engines since the deadline's due in a couple of weeks.
But when I pop in here to catch up I can't seem to find the thread.
What?
No, I'm sure it's supposed to be there...
Why can't I find it?
Was it all a dream..?
Could it really be there, waiting for me..?
In our 'special' place?
This whole site was our special place...
Perhaps I'm an insane, sexually repressed emo(srry James!)?
That, or the compo is cancelled due to lack of participants.
But is it too much to ask for some small notification on the matter?
I haven't been here for a couple of days, but I haven't recieved any pm about it.
Indeed, it was all a dream...go back to sleep, Eternal Man...
The compo was canceled, as I had not heard anything from participants beyond you. The offer still stands, however: if you finish your game, I will host it for you and post a review as well.
I figured it would be best to simply delete the thread and not make a fuss about the lack of turnout or whatever.
EDIT: I just deleted it this past Saturday, so it's not like you missed anything; there were no posts from anyone else after I had posted my final call.
Heh, I was just looking for it myself. I was going to wonder out loud (figuratively speaking) whether dropping the engine part and turning it into a regular Halloween competition would do anything for bringing entrants in.
Yeah, I'm disappointed as well, OMC. Your logo is fantastic.
I personally think it's past time to announce another Halloween competition/contest, unless it's one of those 48-hour things. The month has 3 weeks left. Although a tremendous amount of work can be done within that time, for sure, there have already been some other better-publicized Halloween contests announced elsewhere. I'd recommend TDC folks simply save their energy and effort for a winter holiday competition instead; that seems to have even more of a push than the Halloween season around here, anyway.
If I do something like this again for next year, I will be sure to give plenty of lead up time and much fewer criteria up-front. I'm convinced that asking people to play along with the same concept for more than a month (and more than one linked competition) is futile.
Well ok then, though netiquette would rather have had you sling a short pm my way about it.
However, I implore you to start a simple halloween compo.
The prize is already there(see SMR's offer), nothing fuzzy, just something simple like a "spooky game", in that way, anyone can enter!
C'mon, TDC needs to host a halloween compo, it's TRADITION!
And ask all christians here how important that can be.

Although I find it impossible to confuse TDC even remotely with any bastion of netiquette out there, I do see your point, and I apologize about my lack of manners.
That being said, and in deference to holiday tradition, I will host another - less strict by far - Halloween competition (unless there are any objections in the next 15 minutes or so). Stay tuned...
