Please could someone recommend a decent Screen capture program preferable free to download? Obviously if not free a good chargeable one? I've been looking at a program called Fraps but this appears to be chargeable, has anyone used it before?

This is Fraps:

Try CamStudio.

Camtasia is a good one too, but that unfortunately isn't free. You might be able to find old versions floating around that are free though. I managed to get Camtasia Studio 4 several years ago for free, time limited offer.

everytime i've tried to use camstudio, i've had sound recording / driver issues. and there's nothing wrong with my sound or drivers seeing as how almost every other recording software i use is fine.

also, i would recommend Expression Encoder 4. It has a few limitations, but nothing that can't be overcome with other software and video converters. Also the 10 Minute Capture limit seems to have a bug. A message pops up telling me i've hit the limit but if i just hit record again, the message never comes up again. It does this everytime you run it though, so basically you hit the 10 minute limit once everytime you use the application.

Only downside to expressions studio is it doesnt record directly to video, it records to a proprietary file format used for editing in Expression Encoder. You then export and encode the edits to a video format, which can take a lot of time depending on the settings you recorded at (high resolution, video length, etc).
