Just wanted to know, who played this game here and what is the overall feel and experience you had from this game?
I have a level 38 Witch Doctor and a Level 32 Barbarian on Nightmare... It was kinda fun to play but it got me bored after awhile
It seems that the game is shorter than Diablo 2 and more repetative if you keep playing it trough, only because the stages and monsters keep repeating themselves. But don't ask me much, for I am on drugs and the effect of the drugs tire me up so I cannot do much when it comes to the disinterest I feel from every experience I had with this game.
The skills I use for the witch doctor currently is rain of toads, but the witch doctor seems kinda weak character compared to the barbarian that just hack and slash everything in his path...
If you bought yourself a copy of this game I would like to play with you online and make a group of klik players kicking monster's asses on this game, so join me and buy the game, so we could team up!
Obviously I own it and I love the game. I have a level 60 Monk and a 28 Barbarian. The environments are repetitious yes, but there is tons of random content that you just won't see during your first playthroughs. Pointless things to collect. Rare and Legendary items to farm. Secret rainbow pony level to unlock.
Personally I'm addicted to the Auction house. I accumulate gear with magic find, and then farm items to sell on the auction house, to make money, to buy better gear with MF, and so on and so forth.
I just put up a rare ring that is apparently worth quite a bit. There are only a few others with similar stats and the lowest buyout is at 700k gold.
p.s. - It's gonna be crazy to see how the real money auction house economy turns out. might actually be able to make some extra cash with that in my free time.
I got a level 60 Monk and Witch Doctor. While the witch doctor has the awesome firebomb skill (you throw a burning skull) you're pretty much limited to poison darts if you want to do decent single target damage. He got some awesome AoE skills though. Two Acid Rains will kill off most non-champion non-boss monsters. Unfortunately the zombie dogs are pretty weak, the gargantuan fares better although it too dies a lot against certain champion combinations (my pet peeve is Vampiric Plagued, where the gargantuan will happily stand in the plague puddle, healing the monster for the damage it takes) The monk on the other hand has lots of buffs and does pretty good single target damage.
I disagree about Diablo III being more repetive than Diablo II. In Diablo II every game was more or less the same, just with different maps and different monster. In D3 while the maps themselves have less variety, you do encounter random events (too many to list them all, but the earliest would be the Jar of Souls and Matriarch's Bones in the cemetary of the forsaken in act 1) and the champion/boss modifier variety is greater.

Strange how companies can make you fork over cash for virtual items but selling a MMORPG account can land you in Jail. They love milking customers for every penny. I think Diablo 3 lacks the charm of its predecessors in quite a few ways. Then again I don't play many modern games much anymore. Most end up disappointing me and or are simply not worth what they cost.
Separate note: Anything related steam then I avoid it like the plague. I'm still disgruntled over my "VIRTUAL" copy of AVP3 which no longer works. Glad it only cost $10 which is about what the game is worth...
<rant>
you're the first person I've heard that says it lacks the charm of it's predecessors. IMO and that of most others I've heard, describe it as the opposite, being a natural progression of the series. You sound like an old man going "dab nab all these newfangled fancy pants thingamabobs!"
Also I have NEVER heard of anyone going to jail over selling an MMO account. Account/Player/IP/etc. bans of course, but jail time? Show me.
As for the virtual items, you pay for them with the knowledge that the company does not have to supply support for eternity. That is on you good sir. You don't HAVE to buy them.
As for Steam, I have never had a problem with them. How exactly does AVP3 not work anymore? if it is a system requirement issue, graphics card driver problem, or compatibility issue, then that has NOTHING to do with Valve or steam. They are an intermediary. A publisher. A download service. Support is ultimately up to the developers of the game. Blame Sega not Steam. You would have had the same problem had it been a hard copy on a disc. You might as well avoid software and technology in general then. Cause guess what. Everything deprecates, eventually.
Also I did a google search and found a lot of information about compatibility with AVP and Vista. If this was your issue, it seems to have been fixed. Don't act like all Steam related stuff is bad, because of an isolated incident unrelated to steam. I hate that kind of attitude. "Well this one thing on their service was terrible so it must all be, and its THEIR fault". See above, you are always going to have problems no matter what service or medium you get your games on.
</rant>
Wow that's a lot of assumptions. As for landing yourself in jail for selling a MMORPG account it can happen because it did at my university. (A student in the previous video game design class.) When you sign up for an MMO you usually agree to certain terms and conditions. Selling an MMO account or virtual gold to another player is a HUGE violation of those rules. Kids from Korea and some other countries were buying up this guys accounts through paypal. In some of these very same countries people mine virtual gold or level up characters in order to make a living. (YES ITS TRUE) This is highly illegal as far as our government is concerned. Okay so Blizzard is not making you give them money but you must admit this is yet another cheap tactic to sucker money out of gamers. Games can be addictive after all! Seriously these big developers look at gamers the same way they'd look at a bunch of rabid baboons. They are mindless but they need food so here.... "throws garbage"
Old man? LOL Fair enough but (I'm not that old!) I can remember when things were better. (At least for me)
<rant on why steam sucks>
I hate it when people praise and defend Steam like its gods gift to both gamers and developers. Its terrible how long you must wait while gigabytes of data downloads. What about being forced to upgrade games when Steam feels like telling you? If you try and block the annoying ads the program takes a dump. (I hate being bothered when I'm gaming.) I don't care what other people are playing or about worthless achievements. Steam sucks because you only rent the software instead of actually owning a physical copy. Regarding AVP3 I was using an XP machine. It stopped working after I re-enabled my connection to steam because it was blocked for several months. I got tired of analyzing my network traffic and seeing Steam hog up all the bandwidth as I sat there doing nothing! After logging back it and trying to play my game it told me it found a upgrade. I forcibly canceled it because my logic is why upgrade unless I am having an issue? No reason to upgrade if I am happy with the game in its current state. (Far from the truth but that's another topic in itself) Now AVP3 wouldn't launch even though all of the original data sat preserved in its original directory. Okay I agree to finally let it upgrade and BOOM the program does what it does best and take a dump with an error message.
Attempts at fixing Steam:
1. Attempted reinstalling everything.
2. Reformatted machine.
3. Reinstalling everything again.
4. Same error cryptic error string in that ugly gray box.
5. Erased steam forever and good riddance. I'm done!
My system is up to date as far as MS is concerned. I do my 3d modeling and coding on this same computer so don't blast me for still using XP. I have a few Win7 machines but XP is still way easier to customize with tools like Nlite which is why it still rocks. In summary I got fed up with steam and then not working half the time made it a sad joke. In the end it was not worth all the trouble. Steam is a pain in the arse and I hope when it finally dies it never returns. Sorry to hijack this thread but now finally back on topic....... Diablo 3 is not a bad game by any means it just does not appeal to me in the same respect as the first two. I think they waited far too long to make the 3rd installment much like what happened with StarCrap2. Maybe I expected too much of Blizzard or could it be my tastes have possibly changed? If you like the game then fine that's your opinion but just because I don't shouldn't make me the obligatory old man. If I say I like predominately 2d games does that make me old-school or instead could that be viewed as only a preference? I purchased the original Diablo back when it was new and the 2nd while I was still in my teenage years so I have been around to witness both the advancements and every step backward since then. Steam is a restricting and controllive medium which I am happy to not be a part of. My previous steam purchases included the Orangebox, garry's mod and a few others which are now forgotten. They will be somewhat missed but I won't shed a tear over a steaming pile of....well...... steam!
Take some time and learn how computers work then you may realize why Steam sucks. A lot goes on behind the scenes... Data Mining woo waa whee!
Corrosive registry entries.... It just makes me sick.

1. What country are you from?
2. Was this guy selling his OWN account?
3. Not a question, just a sidenote. EULAs are generally not legally enforcable. You're not going to jail for breaking the EULA, just that it more or less says the company running the game can do more or less whatever they want with your account.

1. America.
2. I'm not sure of every little detail. He found a way to generate millions of gold in some MMO and had the FBI at his doorstep for this virtual gold mining which he then sold to receive real world cash.
3. Breaking the EULA won't send you to jail but shady transactions and hacking just might! I will ask my former teacher Monday if she remembers what happened to her student.
Welcome to the wonderful world of modern gaming.
This is nearly as bad as Starcrap 2 not having LAN support, no Spawn copy and only a Terran campaign. Just UGH!
For Diablo 3 I don't think online only is as bad as people think.
What happens when you let people play their multiplayer characters offline? Cheating happens.
Diablo 2 dealt with it by separating Realm characters from Open characters. Now if you ask anyone in the Diablo 2 community, the Realm characters are the only ones that matter. So in Diablo 3 all characters are Realm characters...
But lets assume the game had a single player mode. What would happen is that once you beat Normal difficulty you would hit a brickwall, needing better gear to progress. Normally you would check the auction house for upgrades (or pass some down from another character, but lets assume this is your first one) but instead you would end up farming gear instead of progressing through the game.
However I do think it sucks for Blizzard not to have sufficient capacity at launch.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
First of all I like having that choice. This online only attitude with Developers is getting tired fast. I commend the effort to enforce anti-cheating but a decent group of gamers (at least the type I'd adventure with) wouldn't stoop that low in the first place.
I am sorry but there must yet still exist a better way and Blizzard once again dropped the ball. Anticipation equals disappointment...

I still don't think the game would work past Normal without trading though
The problem with that is that the architecture of the game is more akin to an MMO than a single player game. The resources are indeed on your computer, but all instructions for quests, drops, etc, etc come from the diablo 3 servers. It's not just a log in server.

I made zero assumptions. -_-

Seems perfectly legal to me. Cause for concern maybe, but still legal. As for your last bit there, you make it sound like he was not just selling legitimately earned virtual goods, but hacking and exploiting for financial gain, which the fbi may have interest in stopping. Jail time for the hacking maybe, certainly not for account selling/gold farming, unless they were illegally obtained in the first place.

Apparently you just need some patience. As for the "ads", you CAN turn them off. Just disconnect from the community network, or go into your settings. Never had anything "take a dump" because of that. As for renting the software, do you know anything about licensing? even if you own the physical disc the software is on, you do not "own" it. You own a license that allows you to use it.
Im sorry AVP decided it didnt like your computer, but again, that has no bearing on steam as a delivery service. If you do not like having to download data, or update games, that is your personal perrogative, and should not reflect badly on steam as a service (as they make no attempt to state it is anything but what you just described it as). Instead of saying "steam sucks, here's why" (to which i have never heard anyone argue successfully, without only ever stating isolated incidents, or personal opinion about certain design desicions) and instead saying "i have some real problems with steam, that prevents me from using a reasonable service" i would have to completely 100% agree.
Good luck surviving being a gamer, cause digital distrobution is where it is heading.
Btw, I would never bash on anyone using XP because I use XP. And again, have never had a problem with it or steam (at least none that I couldnt just figure out how to fix myself).
As for me needing to:
"Take some time and learn how computers work then you may realize why Steam sucks. A lot goes on behind the scenes... Data Mining woo waa whee!
Corrosive registry entries.... It just makes me sick.",
if you ask anyone who knows me personally, or anyone on this site who knows me, I guarentee you that they will say i know more about computers than most people here. I personally Own and operate 8 computers, so i would definitely say i DO NOT need to learn about how they work. I am VERY well aqcuanted with most of how they work.
I cannot attest in my personal opinion through my usage and research that any of that is true about steam. You sound like some people i know who think google is trying to spy on everyone by hacking their laptop cameras, and mining all our personal information. Which is not in fact true, and the only data they "mine" is what you allow them to in order to make your online experience more comfortable and enjoyable and to serve you ads that may interest you.
Back to diablo 3. It is what it is, and you're missing out on a fantastic game if you don't play it because of these petty gripes. They are all reasonable, and after a bit of initial launch turbulence, everything is working just fine for the most part (i still get the occasional lag).
Gamers are self entitles pricks for the most part. People even went as far as complaining about the difficulty levels in the game. "Inferno is too hard. It needs to be balanced more so everyone can play it". NO! f**king NO! that's not what it's there for! It is there for the extremely hardcore players who want a challenge, and are willing to put in the time to beat it. They're called difficulty levels for a reason. They get DIFFICULT!
Remember, before people actually got to Inferno themselves they complained that it was too easy because of a handful of people pwning it (who was playing more or less 24/7 and had countless of fans donating gold to them)

Guess I should stop relying on Dragonspeak so much. (more proofreading less auto-correct!) I'm glad you still use XP since it's a great OS. My reasons for disliking Steam are valid and reasonable. I don't particularly like forced updates, suspicious outgoing internet traffic, long downloads, corrosive registry entries, service downtime and data mining. I only want to buy a game, install it and play! KISS - Keep it simple stoopid! I could go on and on but this debate is losing its steam.... (pun!) Not paying taxes on income will get you in trouble. I'd rather not roll the dice nor waste money on virtual goods.
If you think something like SKYNET doesn't exist in this age then you have wool over your eyes. I'm friends with retiree who served in the Gulf War and worked for the Police in the cyber crimes division. His words: "It's true that in the pre-2000 era you could get away with almost anything on the internet. That all changed thanks in part to al-Qaeda." So much goes on behind the scene's. Heck, virtual wars are happening as we sit here typing.
Take one of those 8 computers you have lying around and do a little experiment. First perform factory restore and after the OS loads immediately connect to a few random sites on the internet. In almost no time you will get a virus/spyware/mailware infection. The internet in a sense IS A VIRUS. Companies like Google only mine what you allow them? (Maybe in a perfect world) Wouldn't it be great if everyone played that nice? Knowledge is power and you can't tell me information is not a tool of war. Controlling information is a very powerful weapon in itself. Google taking over my webcam? Now that's silly! Just accept the fact that each of us are only a number. Much like a single byte stored on a hard drive.
Digital Delivery is a great concept. Sadly it's executed poorly by "some" companies. When you purchase game the user should not be stuck with something like Steam and given no choice to opt out. As a avid PC gamer I like having one! I'd even be happy to pay an extra $5 for a physical copy of a game. That's the root of the problem, you cannot BUY a game without a extra service leeching off the game like a zombie. Steam still sucks and I'll be glad to see it go. If I lack the patience for it then so be it because I can remember when things were better...
I'm looking forward to Path of Exile, Torchlight II, Grim Dawn all as great potential ARPGs, TL2 in particular. I am not a fan of the AHRPG genre however so I'll stay far away from Diablo 3. Heck, they have worse itemization in that game than I had in Gridquest...
I love what they've done to the Witch Doctor. Pets are viable in Inferno, even the Zombie Dogs which I stopped using in Nightmare. With them, Gargantuan and Fetish Army I can have the army of minions that I wanted since the game came out
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
Played a level 60 Wizard, up to act 3 in Inferno. Sold half my gear in the RMAH for about $200 when it opened. Heh.
Was working on a melee-focused Witch Doctor (love me some crazy builds), but happened to try the beta of Path of Exile along the way. I'm not touching D3 again. Really was a wake-up call to how non-existent and utterly restricted character building in D3 is.
