blockland is a game where you build things with lego-like bricks
it has a (not so active) community
no it's not a clone of minecraft/roblox it was based off lego from the start
if you don't have it you can get it at steam

I played this years ago. (Maybe back in 2005 or so?)

Nope, never heard of it.
Until there's one of these sandbox games based on Lego Technics, I'm not going to be interested, but that would be very cool (so far, "Gearblocks" seems to be the closest thing, and it's not out yet).
It's a shame Lego don't do it themselves, but they're too busy selling extortionately priced sets tied to existing franchises like Star Wars, to bother. They really lost their way as a company, and I feel zero guilt buying Chinese clones. But then, what are they supposed to do now their patents have expired?
