Just wanting to see what, and how, everyone's doing these days. TDC was such a huge part of my teens, I'm curious to hear what everyone here has been up to over the past... I don't know, 15 years or so?
I'll start: I'm doing alright, all things considered. Unsurprisingly, my body aches more than usual, and I am still no longer making games, let alone playing them much. But my dumb trademark affinity for werewolves and Halloween never went away, even though I'd like to evolve out of it eventually. I show my age and haunt Reddit these days.
I'm a software / devops / data / whatever engineer now. Creatively, I'm squarely focused on illustration and music as my outlets these days, and so far that's been going better than I probably deserve, even if some people still think I'm a furry and not just some bloke who grew up on 90s cartoons.
I've now had a web graphic novel out for a few years, 'See You Next Year', and now a Kickstarter campaign to bring it to a final book form, which ends November 3rd, 2024. It's so far allowed me to communicate my childhood strangeness on a more global, easily marketable scale.
Future plans exist to make one sequel, but then probably just cap werewolf and Halloween stuff for good and call it "mentally processed".
In more TDC-relevant news, I'm super excited for Spring 2025: I'll be flying into Britain to meet up with an old mate I first met here back in 2008, Poobical, who has since won LDJam twice! He is as incredibly talented as I remembered him being, and I'm thrilled for his success. Was fortunate to reconnect with him not so many years back, here, via TDC's good ol' DM system.
Anyway, yeah, what's been up? Where are you with things? What's got you excited? How agile are your bones these days?
I'm an old bloke now at the not so sprightly age of 41 (I joined the klik community when I was around 17/18 I think). I still tinker with game creation but my love for it (and zest for life) has definitely waned in favour of other hobbies such as photography/videography/keeping the house clean for my wife
I am 41, slightly balding but not getting any fatter yet. I am in my 21st year of teaching history and used the skills I picked up in the klik community (albeit using Construct 3) to build an interactive history book/method. Struggling with long covid in the last two years but still hanging in there. When I can find the time I still work on games. Been working on Bernard & Hank 3 for a couple of years now and believe it is about halfway done. Lived together with a woman for a couple of years but managed to mess things up. Things could be worse I suppose.

Hey, great to hear from you again, Chris! Man, crazy to think how much time has gone by... is there anywhere I can check out your photography and/or videography?

Great to see you again Hayo! I'd been wondering how you were doing lately. Great to know you're still making games and awesome to hear that you've had a long tenure as a history teacher. I'd love to see a sample of your interactive history book/method, if you have one handy.
Super sorry to hear you're still struggling with long COVID. How has it changed your day-to-day, if you don't mind disclosing?
My educational history stuff is located here: www.barbaareducatie.nl
It is all in Dutch though!
Long COVID for me pretty much boils down to trying to keep things running at work and doing not much else. Some days I go right to bed after work, some days are a little better. Also my immune system is messed up and does not react to common viruses in time. It sucks but I am better off than some people with this condition.
Given the generally dire state of the world at the moment, I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones, and doing okay.
I still spend my summers working as a sea kayaking guide, as I have for about the last 15 years, although I no longer get to spend my winters working in foreign ski resorts - Brexit put paid to all that.
So instead, I've just bought a house, and will be spending the winter renovating it. Hopefully, I can then rent it out while I go travelling for a few months (or years), doing the whole workaway/helpx/wwoof thing.
I haven't done any "kliking" in a long time, although I keep an eye on Discord etc, just in case I see any interesting going on.
There's still one particular game that I've always wanted to make - basically, a clone of MicRogue - so maybe one day I'll get around to it (probably not using Fusion though). Sadly, MicRogue doesn't run on modern Android versions any more, but I managed to decompile it, and it's fascinating to look at all the inner workings, and to see all the other types of monsters etc that got cut from the final game, but never had their assets removed.
After university i moved to Thailand to live cheap and focus on game development, and i am still here 10 years later! So i pretty much have this community to thank for my life.
I decided to move here rather than get a job back home since i was already earning a bit of side income from my flappy bird clone that i figured i could stretch here while working on something new.
So by chance i teamed up with a guy i met here who was already involved with cryptocurrency at the time, and made some apps related to that, so the apps earning me income aren't really games, but it blew up nicely especially during covid, so i am doing great and pretty much just do whatever i want, which unfortunately means i probably drink too much and end up also just spending a lot of time on the couch. But I've gotten into dj'ing and regularly play at some local bars, and i am currently doing 3 sessions a week at the gym with a personal trainer.
Been together with a nice Vietnamese girl for most of this time too, she lives with me in Thailand but we also regularly travel to Vietnam.
A bunch of my older games were still available on Android until recently, i didn't put too much effort into keeping up with the requirements so they are mostly gone, but i still have 3 left, and i started exporting some of the other ones to html5 so they can at least stay alive on my homepage: https://www.gameyey.com/
I definitely have a plan to revive my last unfinished and unreleased game too, have some new ideas for it!

Agggh, sorry for the delayed response, Hayo. *facepalm*
This is really excellent stuff! Love the art and ease of interactivity. If you aren't the cool teacher at school, Then I don't know who is.
And, thank you for letting me know how you're getting on. I'm really sorry to hear all this. I appreciate your mature perspective on it, but I definitely hope you can finally throw it off.

Hey Sketchy! Glad to hear from you again, and glad you're doing okay. Bummer to hear that Brexit put an end to international ski resort deals, though. But awesome that you got a house to have some fun with!
Haha, you're doing better in terms of Klikking than I am, then. I honestly can't think of a single game I want to make anymore, or any kind of game I'd trust myself even halfway enough to complete or do a good job on. But MicRogue does seems an interesting project to take on.

Hey Softwarewolf! Great to hear from you again, glad to know you're still in the game-creation space, and sounds like you've got an awesome life in Thailand! You're one smart cookie and sounds like you've got it made
