Well, I was reading the lastest heap in the articles section about being nice and one of the comments read out about how these things waste space. It was followed by another article about how they dont waste anymore than 3kb at most.
Now correct me if i'm wrong, but bandwidth is not the space on the server's hdd. bandwidth is the info being sent in and out. As someone who works on servers for a hosting company, I get to know these things. furthermore, that 3kb becomes 3mb at the end of the day because everyone wants to download it and raise the traffic of the site!. To make things worse, when you have this junk, people will flock to it and post their 2cents bellow. Their 2cents can be more or near the amount of space that original article took up. So we have that 3kb blossom into a good 300kb if people love to respond, and by the end of the day we can make 10+mb of traffic for the server. Maybe i've lost a few of you, but it is true, the worse the article, the more the responses, and the more the responses, the greater the traffic, and the greater the traffic, the bigger the bill is at the end of the month.
So go ahead, post your articles about love and peace and general anti-sodomy. We can thank you later for being the bulk of inefficiency which takes down the last click site.

i think the admins have it under control. the nature of the site implies that people will return to see the comments on an article, thread, etc. and dont forget that some of it is cached by the users browser.
i wouldn't worry about it if i were you. of course, you'd have to hear it from shadowcaster to be sure, but i think TDC is safe regarding bandwidth.

Cached or not, most browsers are set to check for updates. that check is still bandwidth.

Maybe it should be like when you write an article, it first needs to be approved by an admin. Then useless ones would be filtered out, and we'd be left only with articles worth reading and the site would cost a little less (and in a way, that'd be another way of donating to the site if you don't feel like donating money)

that'll just mean more work for the admins. shadowcaster is reluctant to take on anyone new.

Why is it everytime something is proposed its up to ShadowCaster to make??? Im sure this could be done by other admins or a team of reviewers...
If you knew, I would have to kill you...
