Is it possible to make it so only people that have downloaded the game can vote thumbs up or down? That would eliminate people going and voting thumbs down on everything for no reason.

It's funny, but that's actually the problem. When you download a game it TDC automatically loads the "vote" page. I always vote Thumbs Up whether the game sucks or not, but lots of people would always vote Thumbs Down just to get rid of that annoying page that pops up even before you've played the game!

Make voting Thumbs hard to do...add a seperate page where you must add your username and password, and stop the autoloading of the vote page.

Maybe more people would post well thought out comments then...or maybe not...

People were complaining that no one was voting... now you're complaining that too many people are voting? Again, I refer to Murphy's Law.

If people dont want to vote, they can just click the Back button, or the Downloads link again. I dont believe people are voting just for the sake of voting.

Well...as you may have noticed, I always post comments about the games I download. If you're too lazy to post a comment explaining how you feel about a game, then it obviously doesn't matter much since it doesn't seem to bug you does it?

My comments may be detailed, or just "It's good. ", but they're still better than a thumbs up or a thumbs down, in my oppinion. You're right though, that some people want to be able to vote without having to type something, and because of that, and the "vote down for fun" people, someone will always be unhappy.

I do like the thumbs system, although a least downloaded list would be good, because that way people who have boring game titles will get downloads.

JD: It's done like that because a game which has 20 ups and 1 down will be rated less (in terms of percentage) than a game with just 5 ups. I think that it's a lot fairer to have it display the ups minus the downs, than to be based on percentage.

--------------------------
Top 5 Thumbs
Top 5 Downloads
Top 5 Reviews (added amount of reviews)
Top 5 1-10 system
--------------------------

I've told ya several times already... a LOT people vote just for the sake of voting . I'm suprised you haven't noticed that trend in the GOTW. If you've been around the actual Hot or Not site, you'd notice that tons of people would just give a 1 to people just for the sake of it.

And SC, the percentage of ups does work better in the long run. A bad game at the top of the list after getting just 100% for a single vote will get a lotta looks, which should drag the rating down after a few people play it. Eventually only the best games actually STAY up there. And it also somewhat works as the "best games of the week" thing I wanted to suggest. Or you could just put the top 5 based on the ratings for the reviews.

But now that I think of it, why is it Top 5? Why not Top 10? And why not use the improved system (once everyone's satisfied) for the articles section as well?

Jep, many people vote for no reason.
You have positive ones, they vote up.
You have negative ones, they vote down.
And people like me, who flip a coin and vote.

Perhaps a game can be based upon the number of reviews.

But i think it would be a lot fairer to give it a number
between 1 - 10 or 1 - 5.

I think it's really sad how people just vote without even playing the game.
It makes me pretty angry.
