Currently i'm working on a website for myself and some close friends on a project that is being kept secret for the moment. The website needs to run under asp for some of it's features. Features needed are:

:: Hits Today Counter
:: Search function on reviews, etc.
:: Admin Features for the adding of a Review, etc.
:: Comments Script.
:: Visitor Ratings for the content in form of 1-10 or thumbs up/down.
:: A way to update the latest bar for each section. This appears on every page showing the latest thing in each section.
:: Newsletter Script - Just a form emailing the team the persons name and email address
:: Submit Review, etc Script.

I know that a few of these scripts can be found on the web which i have spent a long time looking over. Some cannot be worked into this and so i ask here. Does anyone have the time to help me with these coding issues? Some wouldn't take long i'm sure.

I await the replies.

phpNUKE or something is an opensoruce PHP script which can probably do all that; i'm not sure as i've never used it.

I do not plan on using php-nuke for a couple of reasons.

1) from what i have seen you just use given skins. I need our website to look exactly as we want it. We have developed the skins already and just need the asp on top.

2) Asp is in my eyes easiest once implemented and as i want to expand my knowledge into Asp anyway it is the area we are sticking to.

that reminds me we need one more function.

:: A script that checks the date. If it is between say July 5th and August 5th it uses one cascading style sheet, while the day between August 5th and November 5th another. And then for specific days such as 14th February.

PHP can do everything that ASP can do and more. Faster, too. If you're going to learn either one you really should learn PHP

ASP is made by Microsoft, too PHP has greater support, so you really should go for that.

AFAIK you should be able to make your own designs and such for php-nuke. The date checking system is very easy, once you know basic PHP/ASP it's as simple as getting the date, using a few IF blocks and writing an HTML tag to the page.

I have read a lot of books and can say that ASP is more powerful than PHP. Also with ASP.NET (microsoft Intergrated ASP into .NET platform) there are a load of new features to make it even more powerful.

I am sticking to asp. I mean look around The Daily Click is asp, so is Natomic, msn.com is in places to name a few. I am sticking with ASP.

Shadowcaster could help me i'm sure.

Obviously, If you buy a book on ASP it isn't going to say "PHP is actually more powerful than ASP. Why not use that instead?". Whoever told you that ASP is faster obviously has no idea what they're talking about. Sure, it's easier to use. THAT'S why the popular klik sites use it., but you're sacrificing a lot by using it.

Here are 7 things you should know about:

Each should stick to their own tastes, I personally prefer PHP but if YOU are not actually going to code the site what does it matter?

PHP is a helluva lot faster and hooks up with MySQL pretty easily and theres also shed loads more of support in the way of walkthrough tuts and scripts etc

I belive ASP is easier and also i have read books simply on web development that describe web languages, and say how asp is more powerful than php, or show it higher up the list of complex language (therefore can do more).

So can anyone help me with asp?
