To be honest I hate most RPGs, the only ones I like are the futuristic ones like Deus Ex and Anachronox. Gimme a FPS any day...

I like RPGs. Adventure RPGs. Etc. I havn't played FF series because of some certainties. Although I like the zelda, mario, and bomberman titles. The best part i like about an rpg: the huge involvement. You have huge worlds, quests, sub-quests, character plots, etc. Stats, what are stats? Oh yeah, those things that make these games work.

These are very excellent examples by other people and are very informative.

I prefer games with RPG traits over RPGs, eg: An action game but you have exp and stats. Or Action/Rpgs.

I don't like the Eye of the Beholder-type RPGs (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons), because I can't get my head round them. An exception is "Albion", which was sort of the Final Fantasy of its day.

People with fast connections might want to take a look at http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=35 (but then again you might not.) Er... it's got breasts in it. If that doesn't sell it to you I don't know what will.

I hate any RPG with
1. Tons of very easy monsters that pop up randomly. It makes battle seem completely worthless.
2. Tons of very difficult monsters that pop up randomly, making it almost impossible to go through a level that you're supposed to go through.
3. The ones that keep trying to kill you.
4. RPG's where you have to keep track of food. Not too bad if food can be bought in the store by every road (eg, Betrayal at Krondor), but I hate if when food takes up most of your inventory just so you can survive in the deeper caves (eg. playing an invisible Troll in ADOM, before you find those fried bats).

Any RPG without the above stuff should be OK with me. RPGs would be so much better if they weren't so repetitive. I also love the complex RPGs with tons of stats (assuming that you don't need ALL of them). I also enjoy the ones with puzzles where you actually have to use one your skills to accomplish them (whether in-game skills or real-life skills), instead of just killing some monster or retrieving an item.

My favorite RPGs, in order include: Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout 2, Betrayal at Krondor, ADOM, and not much else. I'd put Titans of Steel: Warring Suns and Fallout Tactics in the list if you also count them as RPGs.
