"If Darl McBride was in charge, he'd probably make marriage unconstitutional too, since clearly it de-emphasizes the commercial nature of normal human interaction, and probably is a major impediment to the commercial growth of prostitution."

apparantly HL2 will be able to run on a 700mHz machine with DirectX 8.1... i aint convinced.
but anyway, my DX9 2.5 ghz machine should be able to handle it. and yes it looks very cool.
not quite sold on doom 3 yet. never really liked doom, to be honest. and pretty graphics aint everything.
I'm really excited about Doom 3. Hopefully, ID's return to their roots will attone for the craptacular Quake series. Doom II remains my favorite PC first-person-shooter, and I can't wait to play through the original Doom's story retold with the aid of graphics that are destined to scare the piss out of me.
So far, Half Life 2's graphics have yet to impress me as much as Doom 3's, but the physics and AI look second to none. The thing that sucked me into the original Half-Life was the awesome AI, and from what I've read, HL2 has some of the most realistic enemy tactics ever conceived in a game. Not to mention the awesome new physics engine . . .drool.
One game nobody seems to mention is Thief 3, which looks to have graphics on par with at least Half Life 2, and offers a stealthier twist on first-person action -- kind of like a medieval Splinter Cell of sorts.
I never really liked Doom, but everyone seems to say it looks good.
Half-Life II is something else. The first one was fun enough, but the second looks really, really cool. Can't wait till it gets out.
I play CS and I'm one of the best when it comes to non-sniper maps and if I have teammates that could actually stay alive in a fight for more than 10 seconds. I'm what would be referred to as an 'assassin' (AKA the guy who sneaks up when everyone's busy killing the other team). I love de_italy, coz there's so many ways to sneak up on another person... there's other good maps, but de_italy is still one of the best for short and long range combat.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
They have said DOOM 3 will not be all that much different from the originals. John Carmack was striving to keep it nearly the same, you wount find little extras like opening drawers and such because as he feels, it's not needed in this game. It's just going to be the first two with that paper thin storyline, much better graphics (have you seen the fat on the Zombies jiggle yet?), better sound quality, MUCH improved level design, and music by Trant Reznor. Yeah, I'll be buying that one.
Half Life 2 on the other hand, will be pushing more than just good graphics around, the new animation system they have developed is incredible, while the first game used skeletal animation, HL2 has skeletal and muscular animation, skin slides where it should, etc. etc. Half Life 2 will obviously be a bit deeper in story than the first one, but probably not much (am I the only one who realizes that theres not much story in the first one?). The limits that they are taking the new engine to are incredible. I've been waiting for someone to make an engine that changes the solidity of an object depending on what texture is one it. The AI again looks fairly well done, but I've noticed that they aren't advertising the "Incredible AI" (which was pretty much a crock of shit, I mean how hard is it to tell and AI to use waypoints and always stay close together?) like they did in the first game.
Bottom Line: I'm gonna lose $100 (US) and a good many hours to these two, cause they're both mine on release (thank you pre-order)
PC games are so much better than console games, simply for the use of mods! They rule! Like in Vice City, theres a flippin' Cheesy Wedge Of Doom car that flips everyone around, in Mafia you can change the main character into a boomerang slinging clown, and in black&white you can have a huge retarded sheep!
