installers:
a)Adds a record on the regedit.exe thing...
b)Adds a record on the add/remove programs on the control panel.
c)Adds icons in the desktop and the start button etc..
Now if the installers were only the legendary games like.. Eternal Daughter, or Spirit Engine (By Mark Pay)... it wouldn't be a problem. (Wich btw these games dont use installers)
but..
Say everyone used installers.. for their demos.. and their 2 mbs games... rest assured that no one is going to enjoy your little.. tiny.. really tiny game.. u know? All I want is to unzip your game on the desktop folder, look at the gfx.. and then delete it..
and if it catches my fancy.. maybe play until i lose my 1st live, and then delete it. U know? I know that if I made a game I would get the same treatment.. no matter how much love I put in my game.
Hope u understand, and upload a zip file instead an exe installer.
I agree, but you can make your own installer wich just unzips. so it looks a bit more professional.
for tgf tho you have to use a installer, cuz of those bogus files cant be just in the same dir as the game, but somewhere in a stupid windows folder where it will stay forever.
Installers are usually pointless for small, freeware games.
99 percent chance that the above post is 100 percent correct.

i disagree with that. filesize is no indication of quality.
Well, I agree with Dogzer to a certain extent. I don't come to this website to DL a game, look at the GFX, then delete it, these "tiny games" have alot more to them than graphics, you can learn as a game designer by looking at other peoples work, and inspiration, which is the essence of creativity. It spawned every game on DC and every commercial game you've ever bought, so before you delete a game after looking at its graphics, try to realize that theres alot more in that game than you'd expect.
But I do agree with the installers, I hate em when there used without any good reason, I probably lost about 5 hours of my life to installing and deleting DC games with installers. I want my god damn time back!

Uh... The Spirit Engine does have an installer version.
yeah I know, but u can also just download the zip version.
Now.. that prince of percia example is... hmmm... shut up. Lets get real.. if u want to make a profecional game.. make a good game, the installer has nothing to do with it.
Now I'll walk out of here as the king of truthness.
I downloaded Alex's Matrix Encoded Beta, and that had an installer. It was a one file Beta for christ's sake. I think if there's only one file to be installed, then there's no point. If there's fonts and system files and shit to be installed then maybe an installer's easier. Especially if you're distributing to a non-klick community who don't have the relevent DLL files etc. But otherwise, a one file game doesn't need an installer. Remember, we're all friends here, it doesn't need to look professional when it comes to installation.
I agree with Pete. For example, the original Pac-Man or Dig-Dug wouldn't take up much space at all on today's computers, but it doesn't mean they're bad games.
And why do you only look at the graphics? Why do you go to a game website, download a game and then usually not even play it?
