How do you draw? Do you always add outlines, like Circy, or big eyes or whatever. My drawing style is Circy-Lite. I always use outlines, but they are 1 pixel, not 3.
I try to make mine look different depending on what game it is. I use 3D rendered graphics for 'Zombies Now', for 'Sod' I used 1 pixel oulined graphics with gradual shading and 'Samuryan' I used 1 pixel outlined with three colour shading (original color, shadow and highlight). I used no outlined gradual shaded graphics for another game I made, 'Tony Blair: Armed and Dangerous'.
I don't usually use a black outline; I just use a darker shade of a color. For shading, I usually only use 2 or 3 shades of color at the most. My backgrounds are either lighter or darker than the middleground depending on the environment.
As for drawing characters, I use a cartoonish style.
I have different styles, people know me (and fools bash me) for my "gradient gfx"
like the fishhead gfx: http://www.newklear.com/fishhead/f4-6.gif
in this style, i begin with making shaped and then shade it and add detail...
I use different outlines for different objects. Larger chunkier objects I outline with 2 or 3 pixels, especially if I'm rotating them in game. But for most of my characters I use a 1pxl black outline.
The following image, for example, had scanned lineart which I edited to be 1px thin monochrome. I coloured the insides of the lined areas, then used the replaceColour tool to fill the outlines with darker versions of the fill colours. The outline is shaded a little too, lighter/darker the closer/further it is from the lightsource, but always several degrees darker than the neighbouring filling pixel colour.
My freehand drawing is usually structured - but only enough to remind me of depth, perspective and anatomy. I edit and colour handdrawn lineart and sketches in PaintShopPro 7.2... but I never draw on lined paper
